I also don't call DH's sister's husband my BIL. He is my SIL's husband
i agree with this. my bil is not my dh's bil, but his kid is his newphew. whomever told you they are not your niece and nephew may have been confused.
I would...
DH has a brother- that's my bil when he gets married (hope soon!) his wife will be my SIL
At least, I would consider her my SIL
That is how I feel. Dh's brother got married two months after we did. His wife is my best friend and there is no way I would not consider her my sister in law. JMO
i would call her my sil for conveniece sake, but, techincallly, she would be dh's sil.

I call them my niece and nephew but someone at work corrected me and said they are not my niece and nephew.
Who said this
Of course they are! I always called my mother's and father's sibling's spouses "Aunt" and "Uncle", how is that any different???

I found this...
Brother-in-Law, Sister-in-Law
These are the only really tricky in-law terms. “Brother-in-law” and “sister-in-law” each have two or three meanings.
My sister-in-law could be:
1. the sister of my spouse, or 2. the wife of my brother, or 3. the wife of my spouse’s brother.
Similarly, my brother-in-law could be
1. the brother of my spouse, or 2. the husband of my sister, or 3. the husband of my spouse’s sister.
English speakers use “uncle” for any of four relationships: father’s brother, mother’s brother, father’s sister’s husband, or mother’s sister’s husband.
Again, “aunt” in English could mean your father’s sister, mother’s sister, father’s brother’s wife, or mother’s brother’s wife.

good find! then, there are the English speakers who were also raised to refer to close family friends who are none of the above as "aunt" and "uncle"

I consider Dh's brothers my BIL and his sister my SIL. their children are my neices and nephews. When we send them birthday cards DH signs Uncle F and Aunt D.

Yes they are.
Although even though mike and I have been together for so long we got married when his oldest nieces were like 12. I didn't want to "force" them to call me "aunt" (even though my MIL would try to correct them I would in turn say they can call me whatever they want). I am Just Kristin not aunt.

We're all one big family.
My hubby and I have the same BIL, SILs, nieces, nephews, etc once we got married.
I dont refer to anyone as his or mine.

Re: Is my SIL's (DHs Sister) kids my niece & nephew?
lol.... definately niece....
if you dont like niece then you can use "niece in law" just like "mother in law" for dh's mom.... or grandparent in law--- its just easier to drop the "in law"

Re: Is my SIL's (DHs Sister) kids my niece & nephew?
My uncle was my uncle by marriage, but he was still my uncle and I was his niece. My cousin (my uncle's daughter) is my mom's niece even though it was my dad's sister who was married to my uncle.
I don't think they knew what they were talking about
ETA: My mom called my uncle her brother in law too.
