Is PG a pre existing condition?

If someone is PG and has no insurance but then tries to get insurance, is PG a pre existing condition? Will they then cover it?

PRIVATE disability can make up any rules. my company carries the minimum state policy and there are no restrictions like that.

medical insurance is NOT allowed to consider pregnancy a pre-existing condition. i know from experience as i got pregnant right when i started my new job and wasn't eligible for the insurance for 3 months.

Not with my insurance. I was about 3 months PG when we switched to DH's insurance and it was not a problem!

A "pre-existing" condition under any kind of insurance means a condition that existed prior to enrolling in a policy...I would double-check with your insurance company and confirm about pregnancy.

Re: Is PG a pre existing condition?

DH's medical insurance switched 3 times during my pg with no problem.

I believe only disability insurance you have to have that PRIOR to getting pg.

But, to answer your question, it depends! At my company, it isn't but as others said, it might.

ITA. The only insurance that did not cover my PG was our AFLAC, since we enrolled in my 2nd tri. We did not have it long enough to make the claim by the time baby G was born.

Re: Is PG a pre existing condition?

It depends on the circumstances and the insurance policy. HIPAA (federal law) states that pregnancy cannot be considered a pre-existing condition for health insurance purposes. However, HIPAA doesn't apply to someone who does not have insurance. NY law allows pregnancy to be considered a pre-existing condition for individual insurance contracts. Your friend needs to look at the policy and talk to someone at the company.
