Is spending $$ on sunglasses worth it?
Are higher priced sunglasses any different than say ones from H&M or Target? Is the quality different? Do they protect your eyes better from UV rays?

I just like designer glasses..
But I don't think that they do anything different other then look fancier..

So basically, you're paying $ for the label?

Re: Is spending $$ on sunglasses worth it?
I buy the cheapies because they get scratched so easily and I lose them. I go through about 6 pairs in one summer.
I was thinking this year of getting ONE nice pair and see how I hold up. But I hate being a walking advertisement, so I'm having a difficult time finding something that doesn't have the label strewn across the side. Or the front

I don't think so. I've had good ones and $12 ones and they seem the same. I get the $12 ones now.

Re: Is spending $$ on sunglasses worth it?
I don't think that higher priced sunglasses protect your eyes any better...you just pay for the name...
That being said...I have bought high end sunglasses several times...and several times I have managed to lose, break, scratch and whatever else to them...I decided to not do that anymore...
I'd much rather buy cheap, chic, trendy sunglasses every year - so if anything happens to them - I can throw them in the trash without cringing at the $$ I've wasted...

Re: Is spending $$ on sunglasses worth it?
I never bought a pair of expensive or brand name sunglasses bc they get scratched so easily & I am not really careful with them. I do have a pair of knock-offs I got for $20 & enjoy them.
Now I just bought DH sunglasses for over $250 & he tells me he sees a difference in them but I think he is just trying to justify it bc I was not happy about the $$

Re: Is spending $$ on sunglasses worth it?
I think it's worth it. The cheaper brands get scratched more easily in my experience. The more expensive ones feel better and are sturdier. (I haven't tried all brands though.)
I don't ever lose my glasses though. If I lost them a lot, I would buy only cheap ones.

Interesting...do you think that maybe you treat them better because they are more money and you don't want to scratch them, but the cheaper ones it's like "ah, it doesn't matter, I'll just get another pair" ?
**Not just YOU, just a general question. Because I think if I bought a pair of $200 ones I would make sure not to loose or scratch them

This is what I'm thinking. I always get the cheap ones and they get all scratched to h*ll or broken, but I don't take very good care of them. If I spent a lot of money on them I would definitely pay more attention to taking care. I was in Macy's the other day and was looking at expensive, designer sunglasses and didn't see any difference, so I was wondering if I was missing sometihng.

Re: Is spending $$ on sunglasses worth it?
I saw some test on the news last year & from the samples they tested, cheap ones protected from UV rays just as well as more expensive brands.
I do find that really cheap, drug store ones tend to fall apart more easily, but I have found decent ones without spending a lot. I like really plain ones though, so designer isn't worth it for me.

Yes I take better care of my chanel and Burberry sunglasses then the cheaper ones! Plus I keep them longer.

Re: Is spending $$ on sunglasses worth it?
I had once bought a very expensive pair of ray ban's they looked better than any other glasses I had ever owned but I was so afraid of scratching or losing them that I kept them in their case most of the time. I wound up returning them, I was just too worried about them. Now i buy sunglasses from tj maxx they have some of the name brands but the lesser expensive ones like guess, fossi etc. Now I dont care if I break scratch or lose them and they work just fine.

Re: Is spending $$ on sunglasses worth it?
Well I think it depends on what brand you are getting. I have Maui Jims which aren't really fashionable but I do notice a difference when I wear them. Mine have lasted 6 years so far and no problems. I do only keep them in the car and I do take care of them so I don't know if that is it.

Re: Is spending $$ on sunglasses worth it?
I won't spend a lot of $$ of sunglasses because I lose them all the time. I also get them broken by my k ids too , so for me, the $15 ones I get in Target are fine!

I do think I tend to take better care of the expensive ones. They always go back in their case.
I did take some care of the cheap ones because I hate shopping for new glasses that look good on me. But I didn't mind if they flew off the dashboard....

Re: Is spending $$ on sunglasses worth it?
yes, sunglasses are my one splurge. I love them, I'm addicted to sunglasses...I think that the designer/more expensive ones have styles that I like better than cheapo ones.
Don't get me wrong though I have cheap sunglasses too, I don't discriminate

I think you are getting a better lens. Much clearier. I have a pair of Bulgari ones and they are like looking through glass. My cheapo ones (which I wear all the time) are great too. ]

I think the designer ones hold up a little bit better. You are oaying for the C's or whatever, but the quality is better.

I think so. The quality of the plastic/metal is always better. I like the designs so much better too.

Re: Is spending $$ on sunglasses worth it?
I LOVE sunglasses.. and yes I buy designer. I like the design and the quality better than the cheapos. I am not against all cheapos.. I like cheapos for the beach.. where I can toss them around and not care. I take very good care of my designer sunglasses.
Edited because I also have a pair with Polarized lenses and they 100% are clearer than cheapos... it's bizarre to wear them and see how clear everything is.

Re: Is spending $$ on sunglasses worth it?
IMO, spending $$ on sunglasses is worth it. Spending $$$$ on sunglasses, maybe not so much.
I really like ray bans, and I take care of them. My polarized lenses cost way more, and I can totally see a difference with them. They are awesome.
I'll spend $$ on glasses for the quality and durabilty. I wont spend $$$$ just for a name.
