I almost hope they don't go back to work without a contract...it would defeat the whole purpose of why they went out in the first place...I think they have a right to a pension...and just because others have settled for a crappy contract, why should they...?

I truely do understand your point....but I don't care if they have a contract or not...I want my DH home for Christmas. Because of this strike his days off were cancelled and the entired NYPD went on 12 hour tours...either 3am to 3pm or 3pm to 3am. I miss my hubby...and my son just keeps saying dadda dadda dadda...because he misses him.
So for my own selfish reason I want this strike over....my personal family is more important to me than some contract for people I have no personal relationship with.

Did you hear somewhere that it was over? DH just called me asking the same thing! I have been looking all over the internet trying to find something and there is nothing! The mediators met with both sides today so I guess they are still in talks. I believe it will be over today but it takes 12 - 15 hours to get everything back up and running. The have to test every train line before they are able to let anyone on them.

1010 WINS just reported that there IS a deal - they're just waiting for the union officials' approval.

I wouldn't take it for granted just yet Chat Icon

At least one member of Toussaint's board said before the meeting that he would not agree to send the workers back to the job without a new contract.

"We're going to try to get everything in writing," said John Moody. "If we go back without a contract, we've lost our bargaining chip. Our bargaining chip was the Christmas shopping season."

They are being asked by the MTA to put more $$ into it, which legally the MTA is not supposed to do. The concern is, if they give back now, the next time around they will be asked to give back more, which is what has happened with police and teachers.

No, it's definitely not over but they did agree on something with the mediator that will allow the workers to return to work while still discussing it. However, the exec board still has to vote on it and, as I posted above, the only one vocal enough to speak to the press so far has said he's voting against it Chat Icon

Re: Is The Strike Over?!?!?!?!?!?!?

OK, I just sent an e-mail to DH with this as the subject: "The strike is over! Busses and trains will resume in about 12 hours!"

He sent me back 2 different reply:

This: "great
I will leave work then"

and "I feel like I felt when I heard the end of late fees:

I am LMAO! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
