YES! YES! YES!! It is illegal to strike and he ordered it. If I stole from my job I would go to jail. Stealing is illegal. Government workers striking is illegal. I don't see any difference.

Re: Do you think (yes strike related)

Nope. Applying that logic, the entire union should go then and that's not feasible. I do think he can kiss his career goodbye though.

nah... I think they should just fine the crap out of him. Hit him where it hurts!
If he goes to jail... he'll be considered a martyr... and that just doesn't do it for me.

I think they should do both. And personally- I think all the strikers should go to jail - but I know that's not realistic. But as the ringleader of the strike- I think he should definitely go to jail.

But I agree- If I had to chose between fining him up the wazoo or jailing him- fining him would hurt him more.

No. He's not the only one making the decisions. If they want to punish him, do it through fines.

I hear Ed Koch say that putting any Union Leaders in jail would make them martyrs & just help their cause.

I think he has a point. The executive board should be fired though.

Re: Do you think (yes strike related)

i think each and every striker should be fined heavily

if they turn down this latest offering, bloomberg should fire the whole bunch of them and get other people in there.

They are easily replaceable, IMO

I completely agree!!

Although realistically- firing them would cause problems (i.e. hiring new people, training them, etc...).

Bloomberg can't fire them, it has to be Pataki. I think that if he had the power, Bloomberg would have done it already, he's so angry about the whole thing. It's sad that Bloomberg really has no leverage in this whole situation, and Pataki won't get involved so that he doesn't upset anyone who may vote for him when he decides to run for national office.

But maybe it could be done - like in the 80s when Regan fired and replaced employees with the whole airline thing. Hopefully they all just come back to work.

I dunno - there were only 13,000 air traffic controllers and that was across the nation. There are almost 34,000 NYC transit workers and the pool to pick from in NYC is very small for replacement.

Re: Do you think (yes strike related)

i mean i'm sorry

touissant and company cannot compare the dealings with cops and the firemen to the transit workers

touissant said that the workers were there on 9/11

um, if I remember correctly, all the trains were shut down Chat Icon

I'm with you Don.

And this strike sends a terrible message to the rest of the NYC/NYS employees. What's next- Cops and fireman and teachers striking? That would be fun Chat Icon
