I asked the pharmacist based on DS's symptoms, what would he have recommended based on the old guidelines. He gave me an answer "off the record".

Ds is 14 months & had a bad cold last week. We used hylands cold tablets & they seemed to help his runny nose. I bought them at BRU.

My ped gave an inhaler for a bad cough, but said nothing over the counter.
I got Ayr- a saline cream that feels good on runny noses.
I've also given spoonful of honey for cough which works for a short time.

Put vicks on her feet (make sure to get in between her toes) and then put socks on top. Also, give a mixture of honey and lemon a few times a day, As well as saline three to four times a day. Keep a humidifier in the room at night. Give her lots of water and limit dairy.

Re: Is there any cold medicine safe for a 2 yr old?
DD had a reallly bad cough once and she just couldn't sleep at night. I called my pediatrician and he gave me a recommendation of Triaminc. He gave me the dose and left it up to me. He said it's safe as long as it's used the right away. iI's been around forever and to only give it before bed so she can get some rest. That was the only time I ever used it and it really was just bc DD kept waking up coughing, couldn't catch her breath , et. I followed his instructions exactly .

Re: Is there any cold medicine safe for a 2 yr old?
My Aunt, who is my ped, told me to get Zorbees (I think that's the name of it). It's near the kids cold meds in the drugstore but it's not med, it's organic/all natural honey and some other stuff.
Worked really well on DD who had a killer cough for weeks that wouldn't go away.
Good Luck!

Here too. Helps dry them up. If she had a cough we'd add tylenol because it helped reduce irration. If she stuffy we'd also give motrin as it reduced swelling of sinus. Doc's orders
I also used all sorts of cough, cold, allergies remedies that were homeopathic. Still do. She's 4 and still no actual cold medicines.
I've never been told to give her mucinex. If I were, I'd probably hesitate only because *I* react so strongly to it. I can't take it unless I plan out my attack. It makes me cough up to the point of pain and its a drowing feel when I wake up. I only use it in severe situtations.

Re: Is there any cold medicine safe for a 2 yr old?
You can give benadryl- but you will need to call the ped for the right dosage based on their weight- because the bottle doesn't have a does for under 4 years old.
Also Zarbee's for a cough- all natural -just honey based- and works pretty good.
