Re: Is this dress ok for a Sat Afternoon Bar Mitzvah?
I guess I'm thinking it's ok because temple is at 10:30 and then a luncheon at some fancy place right after. It's not a drop dead over the top wedding type Bar Mitzvah.
Also, even though I'm 4000 sizes bigger than this model I rock this dress. It's a bit form fitting. I have nude shoes and bag and funky earrings and a bracelet.
Now I could accessorize fancier.

I think that would be fine, but you could go dressier. I just went to my cousin's Bar Mitzvah last Sat and I broke down and bought a new dress. It was a sheath like that, but a brocade material with jewels and pearls at the neck. Other people wore pretty dressy dresses as well.

ok i was actually going to say that it would be fine to wear to the temple and then change after but if its just a luncheon, i think you should be good in it.
and if you feel good in it and are going to rock it, then totally wear it!!

I think it's perfect since it's not a very formal bar mtizvah. I've been to some that are like sweet 16s even though they are during the day. Cute dress!

I agree-I like the dress & if it is just a luncheon I think it's great.
If it was going to be at a hall, with a DJ, etc, I'd go a little fancier.

Let's hope that it's just a luncheon..that's what I was told. It's at a military academy in Kings Point or something. I have to dig out my invite.
It is the wealthier side of the family...but the $500 Nicole Miller was just out of my budget!
I haven't seen these people in 10 years and I never met the kid.

Here?
This seems more like a regular hall, but I still think your dress is fine. I wouldn't spend $500 on a dress for an event for a kid you never met!
Sometimes I find that wealthier people actually don't go all out & over the top with the the sparkly dresses & such. I guess because going to a fancy place isn't that big of a deal? Not sure--That's so not my life!

I always feel ANYTHING goes anymore for events like this or weddings, you'll have people formal & pretty casual. I think that dress is totally fine.

Re: Is this dress ok for a Sat Afternoon Bar Mitzvah?
I could get a fancier wrap to cover for temple anyway.
Yes, that's the place.
They said originally it was going to be a big all out affair but now it's just a luncheon.
I'm sure there will be a DJ and such but I don't see it as a big affair where and evening dress is appropriate.
My mom got a beautiful white cotton jacquard sheath dress with matching bolero from dress barn. I think that is the fanciest thing she has worn in a decade.
I wanted color. I have a gazillion black dresses.
I went to a communion a few weeks ago in a white sheath dress with heels and I was dressed better than the mother of the kid having his communion.
How does one know how to dress?
The mother of the Bar Mitzvah kid is gettng a dress made..that I expected.

Not mine either. Have no idea what to give as well.
To boot they are skinny people...ugh.

I think the style you chose is perfect. My cousin's mom wore a lacy sheath dress and she looked both dressed up for the reception, and nice for the synagogue. So maybe just the same type of dress but a dressier material.
Maybe like this? The jacket is nice for the ceremony and then you can take it off for the reception.
Also from Zappos. Comes in black too.

I ordered two others in a slightly fancier material from Nordstroms. Wish me luck.
