Is this normal/common behavior for a 9 month old?
My DD tends to be very "rough" and "aggressive." Some specific examples, she hits (often hard), throws toys, forcefully pushes things out of her way when she's crawling (including other babies ), etc. Is this typical behavior for a 9 month old? She just seems so angry sometimes that it worries me.
I do try to "teach" her its wrong and try to show her "nice" and say no to the pushing and throwing, but does she even understand???

I think it is ok....my dd gets rough sometimes still when she gets excited (usually our poor dog gets the brunt of it, so does mommy!) but at daycare she is super gentel...go figure....I think they don't realize their strength and it takes a little time for them to realize how to control themselves...lol...but that could also be just what I told myself to feel better too!

Jodi...Honestly Gillian isnt doing any of that so I am not sure what is right or wrong. Could it be from daycare? Gillian wa always 1:1 or sometimes 1:3 or 4 most. Maybe it is the big settings. I am anxious to hear what others have to say.

I would say it's pretty normal. That's just her personality, I guess. Steven gets mean too. He tends to be aggressive towards other kids, throws, hits and has a horrible temper when he doesn't get what he wants.
I wonder what would happen if we put them together.

That's what I'm afraid of. I'm sad she's a "mean" baby - that perhaps I did something wrong or she's not getting something she needs so she's frustrated. She's only in daycare 3 days a week, but often when she's home with me on work from home days I have to "ignore" her.

Steph they'd probably hug and kiss each other or perhaps it could be more like a WWF match

Re: Is this normal/common behavior for a 9 month old?
shes not a "mean" baby Shes probably going through a phase right now anyhow. My thought was that since there are probably a ton of kids in her class maybe she has to be on the defense in terms of sharing etc...like she doesnt have to at home. I dont even think thats a bad thng anyway. i would think she is learning coping skills even if it is coming out in the way of aggression. (so what if you will be in the principals office at 3 ) Let her come here and teach Gillian some defensive techniques

Giada gets excited and will punch my chest when I am holding her. she gets wild and happy and her arms go flying too. I guess its normal.

See she doesn't do it out of excitement...it's her normal dispostion.
I'll have to talk to the ped about it I guess. The lack of responses leads me to think - its not the norm.

Re: Is this normal/common behavior for a 9 month old?
My DD is 8 1/2 months..but I do notice lately her behavior changing like she gets an "annoyed" cry when I don't pay attention to her.. SOmetimes she pushes things on the floor off her highchair..I don't know how she is with other kids..b/c she isn't really around them. I am sure it is just a phase that will pass.

Re: Is this normal/common behavior for a 9 month old?
My DD is also in daycare and does not do that but there are a couple other babies in her daycare that do and they are really sweet babies - they just play "rougher". She is not hitting out of anger (that is learned behavior - whereas at this age I think its just they don't know any better and some are naturally more physical, KWIM)
I really don't think its anything to worry about but I would talk to your ped to put your mind at ease

Grace can play kind of rough too- even before she started day care- she pulls my hair so hard, it has brough tears to my eyes. She is a little rough and tumble girl. So I think its just their personalities. I didn't even think of anything being wrong until I read your post
