is this normal for a 2 year old to do/know?
I dont know if my dh and i are just shocked bc its out first kid or if a lot of two years old do this. We told DD we were going to the beach the other day and we usua, llly go every weekend. We driove down our block to the main intersection, to go to the ebach we turn left to get on the parkway.well Dh needed to get gas so he is mid way in to a right turn when dd from the back starts yelling and i mean YELLING" NO, NO GO TO THE BECH"and pionting left. So we said we are goggn we just have to stop at the store first. So she stopped yelling and then says" We go to Jamies house?" That is dhs cousin whose house was in thr dorectin we were going.
DH and i were amazed but agian this could be normal and we just dont know it.
What do you think? She willbe two this month.

Re: is this normal for a 2 year old to do/know?
I think it's normal. My DS is 2 and definitely has a "directional" sense... he can pretty much guess different places we're going based on what roads I take (Gymboree, Stop & Shop, etc) My parents live in Queens and as soon as I start heading into that area he talks about Grandma and Grandpa's house. And although I'd love to believe this was some sort of sign of brilliance, in my heart I know he's just a regular kid

CHarlie will be two at the end of the moth and he is the same way. He just doesn't stop screaming until we actually make the correct turn. I'm always amazed.

it sounds normal, especially if its a routine thing. kids are little sponges.

Yep...my son was 2 when my parents moved into a new house a few blocks from us.
By our second trip there, he could tell you EXACTLY how to get there.
It's amazing what these little kids know! It STILL amazes me every day.

Sounds normal. I remember being shocked that at age 2, my son could give directions to our house, using street names It's amazing what they know!

Re: is this normal for a 2 year old to do/know?
My son is 2 years old and has a heck of a memory. it amazes me all of the time. He knows which direction the food store is and (uhhuumm-sorry to say) where the McDonald's playground is. I tried an experiment the other day, as we got to every courner I asked him which wasy we should go....we were going to the playground (near one of the schools). He actually directed me the whole way there.
It's so cool.

I think it's pretty normal. Steven knows the way to every park in the neighborhood.
