Is this true - sales tax?

I got this in an email foward - i have never heard about this but wondering if it is trueChat Icon

Did you know that if you sell your house after 2012 you will pay a 3.8% sales tax on it?
That's $3,800 on a $100,000 home etc.
When did this happen? It's in the health care bill. Just thought you should know.
SALES TAX TO GO INTO EFFECT 2013 (Part of HC Bill)
REAL ESTATE SALES TAX
So, this is "change you can believe in"?
Under the new health care bill - did you know that all real estate transactions will be subject to a 3.8% Sales Tax? The bulk of these new taxes don't kick in until 2013 ifyou sell your $400,000 home, there will be a $15,200 tax. This bill is set to screw the retiring generation who often downsize their homes. Does this stuff make your November and 2012 vote more important?
Oh, you weren't aware this was in the ObamaCare bill? Guess what, you aren't alone. There are more than a few members of Congress that aren't aware of it either.

Re: Is this true - sales tax?

right now i would not worry too muc about that bill - a florida court declared it unconstituional - the supreme court needs to rule on it before it can go into effect if at all

Re: Is this true - sales tax?

Looks like it's part of the capital gains laws. Only affects people making over 200k a year.

This is what happens when our "leaders" vote on bills they've never read.

Individuals or couples?

If its couples a lot of folks in the tri-state area will be hit with this

250k for couples. That should also be AGI so you need to be making a LOT more than 250k to get hit with it.

Anyone in that income bracket should have a good accountant to keep their AGI nice and low. Chat Icon

Re: Is this true - sales tax?

I am sorry but, if true, this is just outrageous. It is absolutely ridiculous that if you make over 250K in the tri-state area you are lumped into the same category as millionaires when the two realities could not be further from each other.

I am really tired of working my tail off only to be penalized for it, meanwhile my SIL's releatives live off of diability, were approved for section 8 housing and are about to buy a 36 foot SeaRay!Chat Icon

Sorry for the vent but I just feel that the more you play by the rules the more you get scr***d!!

Re: Is this true - sales tax?

In addition to having to have an income of over $200,000 ($250,000 married couples) ... BUT ALSO ...
it will only apply AFTER the 1st $250,000 ($500,000 married couples) in PROFIT.

Yes, not for all which in the email is very misleading.
