Is this wierd? Cleaning related
a friend called earlier while i was cleaning. i said i would have to call back because i was in the middle of cleaning the washing machine. she said "you mean doing laundry?" i said, "no, cleaning the washing machine of all the built up gunk". she said she had never heard of anyone doing that.
is cleaning the washing machine (under lid and around rim) abnormal?

I don't think it is. I have a front loader now so I don't have that problem (I do have a whole host of other problems with it though) but when I had the regular top loader I did that every so often.

absolutely not! I would do the same thing. Why would you want a dirty washing machine to CLEAN your clothes?
I'm not saying that it MUST be done; nor that if you don't do it, it would be a bad thing....but I think it's an added plus about how you like your things kept clean and neat!

it gets funky after a while, I clean it usually if I'm waiting for something to finish in the dryer & i do it while I wait.
I have paper towels & cleaner on a shelf in there just for that reason.

I clean mine also...not every day, but probably once a month or so when it starts to look dusty/dirty.

I do this all the time! we have 2 dogs and dog hair gets stuck in the crack where water sat and dried all the time, and it skeeves me.

I always clean mine and I wouldn't call myself an anal person either. It gets gunky, simple as that. I hate seeing all the crud around the edges of the lid and under the rim of the clothing bin.

I never thought to do it in the past until we moved into our new home  is and understatement!!
My MIl was here with me and she went to town and showed me how to clean it. Now I just dust it and use a the downy ball instead of the dispencer in the agitator for the fabic softner. I also just wipe it down every once and while.

I clean around the rim on occasion or after washing the dogs bedding.

I clean mine also and every other month I turn it onto super load, hot setting, and add 1C bleach to clean it on the inside
