Is your dog licensed with your town?
It's pretty cheap in my town, less than $10. a year per dog. Just wondering if anyone has done this.
Town of Smithtown code says it can seize any dog which is not licensed, whether on or off the owner's premises. Scary thought. But it also says that "The person who last obtained a license for a dog pursuant to the provisions of Article 7 of the New York State Agriculture and Markets Law shall be presumed, for the purposes of this chapter, to be the owner of such dog."
A friend of mine had a dispute over who got to keep their dog when she broke up with her boyfriend. He was the licensed owner even though she was the one who provided all the care for the dog and she lost him. She might have had some recourse, but didn't think she had a good case to prove that she was the primary caregiver. I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that they are considered property and if there is a clear owner, and they are not married, that's that.

Yes, and I have myself as their owner. Not DH, so he better watch out if he decides he wants a divorce.

Re: Is your dog licensed with your town?
no mine is not. But I always meant to. I didn't realize it was so cheap and I just needed to provide proof of vaccines.
I'll probably do it in the springtime when we take her on outings more often.

Amber isn't - she is microchipped (came that way when we adopted her) but not licensed.
How did you do it with Town of Smithtown? Do you have to mail something in or can you do it online?

Re: Is your dog licensed with your town?
mine is in our town in VA, they actually have people who go to the dog parks to check! I think it was $5 or so. More expensive if your dog isn't spayed/neutered

Maddie is. None of our other dogs were. Maybe Bailey was but DH had him before I was around, so I'm actually not sure ... I think maybe he was.
