Re: Is your home Shoes ON or Shoes OFF?
i would never ask someone to take their shoes off in my home. it's one thing if we decide to not wear shoes, but i would hate going to someone's home and have to take my shoes off so i wouldn't do it to someone else.
my house isn't a museum or a showplace. i know things will get dirty/broken/scratched, etc because we LIVE there. my wood floors are scratched even though i have pads on my furniture but it doesn't bother me. one day, i'll have them redone again.
growing up i had to take my shoes off at my friend's house and it was awful. unless you're going to provide slippers, IMO, it's rude. that's my opinion. i shouldn't have to bring slippers or socks to someone's house.
i mop and sweep several times a week. it's part of owning a home. i have 2 kids who are on the floor all the time but can't worry about germs either. my home is for living.

Re: Is your home Shoes ON or Shoes OFF?
right now its shoes off in the living room because i have 2 8month old babies crawling around, i would prefer shoes off in the whole house, which most people do but i dont get crazy about it, but before that i never told people to take their shoes off, i hated it when i went to someones house and had to take my shoes off, especially if i didnt know in advance, unless they had little kids and then i understood

Shoes on. I always feel extremely uncomfortable when I'm asked to take my shoes off at someone's house. I almost feel like they are telling me to take my shirt off...that's how weird it makes me feel.

Re: Is your home Shoes ON or Shoes OFF?
I always take my shoes off but my rule is NO shoes on the carpet. I can clean my floors and disinfect them but carpets and only be vacuumed and spot cleaned on a reg basis. I do not want the grime and germs that are under peoples feet on the same carpet my baby crawls all over. I have no prob tellign people to take their shoes off on the carpets! I am very consistant with this

Re: Is your home Shoes ON or Shoes OFF?
I HATE shoes...I usually take them off right after my coat comes off. DH sometimes takes his off when he comes in, sometimes leaves them on. With a baby on the way I've contemplated going shoes off, but that just isn't going to be able to happen.
After a really bad accident, my dad is now disabled and is in a scooter much of the time, which does come into my house. Also, his legs are now two different lengths so his one shoe has a lift to keep him balanced. I can't ask him to take off his shoes or leave the scooter outside, and I can't ask everyone else to go no shoes when I have Dad going all through the house in a scooter.
DH and I both grew up in shoes on households, so it would be a big switch for us anyway. We have a friend who is a shoes off house, so I always make sure I wear my fun socks to their house

This is exactly us....I never ask people to b/c I don't want to make anyone feel weird....but people see that our living room has a light cream colored carpet so most people take them off.

Re: Is your home Shoes ON or Shoes OFF?
shoes off! i will never tell anyone to take their shoes off in my house - but the pile of shoes by the front door usually signals to considerate people that we prefer shoes off in the house.
i just think it's the rudest thing for someone to walk around your house in shoes. i feel like they think your house is dirty and thats why they are keeping their shoes on.
just my opinion.

Re: Is your home Shoes ON or Shoes OFF?
In the winter, we usually take our boots off immediately when we get home and put on slippers. During other seasons, we usually take shoes off before we go upstairs. We never wear shoes or slippers upstairs because it's carpeted.
I would never ask or expect anyone to take their shoes off in my home. That's what vacuums, carpet cleaners and mops are for IMO. Even when my kids were small, it never crossed my mind to ask people to take their shoes off. I just hate to see grown people sitting around in socks or barefoot. There's always someone who is uncomfortable.
If I know someone has this rule, I think hard about whether I want to go to their house. I absolutely hate walking around in socks and I do not like to be barefoot, especially in someone else's home.
