Oh Geez.........I am so sorry you are now dealing with this. It takes all the fun out of the sono. Are you going to do an amnio? I will be praying that it turns out to be nothing....

So sorry to hear this. Remember it is nothing definitive! I would say try not to worry too much, but I know that's ridiculous b/c it's all your thinking about. I know exactly how you feel, we had questionable results and opted to go for the amnio and our little buddha was perfectly normal!
Hopefully you get the AFP results back and everything is normal!

Re: It ain't easy being green! UPDATED 5/29
Hang in there - I know how stressful it can be, as with both my pregnancies the 20 week ultrasounds showed a soft marker for down's/trisomy. For both our babies, they detected choroid plexus cysts (brain cysts). It is beyond stressful, but take heart in the fact that your ultrascreen results came back very good. That, combined with the fact that there were no other markers, is a VERY good sign.

I can understand why you would be so upset & not be able to concentrate on the sono Hopefully it is nothing & you can enjoy the rest of the pregnancy!
On a side note, I had no idea you were 34, you look more like 25

Praying so hard it's nothing. I know that soft markers are pretty common and everything turns out to be fine. What is the next step? To find out the results from the AFP?

Re: It ain't easy being green! UPDATED 5/29
thanks everyone.
Gerty you are right...it took the fun out of the whole thing b/c it was one of the first things we looked at. so the rest of the time I was freaking out. when we got to the brain and spine, I was so scared I could barely lay there. I am still up in the air about getting the amnio. though it's not completely off the table, I won't get one just b/c of this.
bellaro, what you are saying is exactly what the tech said, and what I have been trying to console myself with. for all I know, I was born with the same "soft marker" or a similar one...b/c these were marks they've just only now begun to see.
sometimes I think all of these screening are curses as well as blessings.
Downs isn't my only fear though. we have some heart issues in my family that are also making me nervous. Genetic counseling and a fetal echo were offered to me.
It's funny b/c it wasn't so much what it *could* be...it was that is was THERE. on MY baby's heart. I already wanted to pummel the thing...lord help any bully that messes with my Newton
I want to thank you all for your prayers and well wishes. I didn't want to ask for them yet b/c we don't know much or if anything is really wrong. I don't want to take from those who really need them now, you know. but I accept them all and am wholeheartedly grateful.
I am leaving soon to go to my regular 20 week appt. I'll guess I know what will be on the agenda today.
thanks again everyone...especially those who went through something similar and shared their stories. while you don't wish this on anyone, it's also nice to know you're not alone.

I'm sure you're worried sick over that little marker, but all your other test results sound very promising. And it's good news to hear that all else was fantastic with your little one!
for a healthy heart!!

Re: It ain't easy being green! UPDATED 5/29
I was too busy worrying myself sick about the spot we saw prominently on my baby's heart during the ultrasound. it was in the left ventricle.
Just wanted to send some support your way. Our has the same soft marker and I totally freaked out about it as well. If it makes you feel any better, despite the fact that I'm 35, the perinatologist who did the ultrasound told us there's really nothing to worry about without the presence of any other markers (we have none and it sounds like your little Newton doesn't have any either). Our midwife agreed and added that the spot is a pretty common thing that most often either goes away or turns out to be nothing.
We're having a pretty low intervention pregnancy - very few tests, ultrasounds etc..., as well as a homebirth, so the amnio wasn't even an option for us. But whatever route you choose I just wanted to wish you strength and let you know you're not alone.

I was told my DS has the same thing. It was the only marker, and all my other tests came back OK. I saw the perinatologist who was not very worried and luckily my DS is perfectly healthy.
I freaked when they told me, and researched it like crazy!
I hope things work out well for you and I'll be praying for your little
