It just keeps getting worse....
for our homeless shelter animals at Hempstead Shelter! Last night a video was released on YouTube where Animal Control Officers are just about to euthanize a kitten. You see them making jokes about it and hear the current director, Pat Horan chanting, "Kill the kitty! Kill the kitty!" Please join me at a rally this Saturday March 19th at Noon at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter 3320 Beltagh Ave. Wantagh, NY Please join me in being a voice for the voiceless.

Where is this video? I have to say in order to believe this,I would have to see the video. I find this hard to be true b/c it is that HEINOUS. Can we see this video, b/c if it's true, then you will have a LOT of su pporters.

Dear Ms. Murray,
I'm sure you are busy with other matters of importance and this email will fall onto deaf ears, but I need to feel like my tax dollars and heart will be heard or read by someone.
While I am certain you've gotten an influx of emails, letters and phone calls regarding the situation at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter as of late, I am writing in an attempt for my voice to be heard.
I've heard you on the radio promoting the shelter and how people should come adopt their pet from there, but do you yourself have animals? No Town of Hempstead park allows animals due to "insurance" or so claims the letter I recieved when I had written about it previously.
Have you seen the video of your staff making light of the fact that they are ending a life? In all honesty, I had to turn in a stray dog I found and requested that if no adoption was made within 2 weeks that I be notified and I would come to retrieve him rather than have him euthanized. I was not notified, so when I called to check up I was put on hold and then when they finally returned to me I was told he was adopted. I have a feeling that this was not the case and your staff just chooses to end a life rather than having to actually WORK.
Animal abuse is far too common, and shouldn't be taken lightly.
I believe it's time to have tighter supervision on the animal shelter to make sure people aren't wasting tax payers money when they goof off and chant "kill the kitty" rather than humanely comfort and then euthanize the cat who is obviously terrified.
Do you think animals who are stuck in cages all day with little human interaction won't eventually become agressive and lose trust in humans?
You need more compassionate staff, and volunteers who will dedicate themseves to making the stay at the ToHAS a little more comfortable so they will be able to find decent homes and be able to acclamate themselves to humans.
This is a cause I am passionate about, and truly wish there were NO euthanizations, because I rescued my dog.
Perhaps privatization would make the shelter run better, it's a shame that NSALA can't overtake it.

Thank you all for the support and for emailing Kate Murray....It has been a busy day as animal lovers are irrate but hopefully, in the end, the animals at this hell shelter will be much better off. Possibly a story on News 12 tonight as well as Eyewitness News. Please join me at Saturdays rally if you can. Our homeless shelter animals deserve so much better!

I will be watching Eyewitness news tonight all night. I don't get news12. I pray there is a story on this. I wish I could go to the rally b/c now I am fuming. But I have an appointment that I cannot cancel.
What other ways can I helP????

I just googled Kate Murray...found her Facebook page and it showed she responded to the video.
It seems the video is 17 yrs old
They are also making it seem that the voice saying that horrible statement may have been edited in. At least that's how I read it.

Even if the video is 17 years old, it CLEARLY shows she is not a person who should be DIRECTING a shelter that is supposed to be helping homeless animals or taking in lost animals etc. It clearly shows she has NO regard for animal's lives, even if it WAS 17 years ago. I think it makes a strong enough statement just her being there, laughing, CONDONING that. You can only imagine what goes on that we aren't seeing, don't see, and THAT I am sure is why volunteers have been BANNED from helping (so no one can witness the cruelty to animals going on there). NOW after seeing this video, seeing the DIRECTOR of the shelter laughing it up when a poor defenseless kitten is being ABUSED before it's undeserved death...I am CONVINCED that is truly indeed why volunteers have been cut off and banned from saving animals and entering the shelter. They are absolutely trying to COVER up the abuse and cruelty that goes on there.
If the director thinks animals cruelty is a JOKE and FUNNY, that clearly tells us the big picture. Good for WHOMEVER found this video and posted the TRUTH after ALL these years. And I don't care if she said KILL the KITTY or NOT, she clearly found the whole death of that kitten to be a mockery.

Excuse me? Clearly Ms. Horan can be seen walking out of the room? NO. Cleary Ms. Horan is seen joking with everyone 1 second before the abuse is beginning. I am QUITE sure she can't be too far based on the timing. In addition, clearly the voice is in proximity to the microphone? Yeah, so we see her walk off the camera but WHY can't she be DIRECTLY to the left of the camera, but off camera, thus her voice being very clear in the camera?
In addtion, I DON"T GIVE A RAT"S AZZZ if she says KILL the kitty or not. Clearly she finds animal abuse a mockery, as she is seen laughing and joking with these "obnoxious and barbaric workers" one second before they start joking about killing the kitten (who is going to be killed, btw) and then practically strangling it to death? She was JUST in that room and I find it IMPOSSIBLE that she is far when this is going on? So far that she cannot hear or see the abuse? PLEASE. No way. We are NOT fools. Apparently that sort of abuse towards animals would happen on a daily basis there and Ms. Horan, in the video, seems quite JOVIAL when an animal is about to be put to death. Is this who is RUNNING OUR SHELTER?????? Is this who we are paying to take in our strays???? Would you want your pet to wind up in this shelter's and directors hands?
It's NO WONDER they banned the volunteers. Now it's ALL very VERY clear. TOH, watch out, we aren't going to back down now.
I am LIVID. And I think it's incriminating enough, whether HORAN says KILL the KITTY OR NOT.

Mine as well. I don't care HOW old it is though. If the person in the video, Pat Horan, worked there then and STILL works there, that's all that matters to me. She clearly is ok with animal abuse and that's my issue with the video. Whether she even said kill the kitty or not, I find the video to be incriminating in itself re the abuse that animals going through that shelter have to endure.
I have contacted Kate Murray as well, a few times today. I am outraged, even if the video IS old. It all adds up now.

DH and I saw it on News12 while waiting at the doctor's. Even DH was nearly in tears over it. It is so horrible!!!!
