Italy—Last Question!
Okay, I'm just about to book my train tickets, which will cement my itinerary in stone. Do you all agree that 24 hours in Venice is enough? I'll be spending three days in Florence and one full day in Venice.

Re: Italy—Last Question!
I would spend 2 days there if you could. It was my favorite city, but it's one that people either love or hate.

Re: Italy—Last Question!
Can you tell me what you did in Venice? I can increase it to two days, but at the expense of a day in another location so I'm not sure I want to do that (my start and end dates are set as my plane tickets are booked). Thanks.

Re: Italy—Last Question!
We went to St Mark’s Square, the Bridge of Sighs and the Doges’ Palace. Spent lots of time wandering (and getting lost) in the bustling streets. We went to a couple factories such as a Venetian glass, lace and furniture and visit visited a few musuems. We also went on a gondola ride and had small snacks at little cafes throughout the days so we could experience as much as possible. And of course, we shopped.

Re: Italy—Last Question!
I think 24 hours is do-able in Venice. You definitely want to do a gondola ride, but those are pretty short. Then there are a bunch of glass shops to go around and maybe see a demonstration of glass blowing. We spent 1.5 days there, and while the city is definitely cool, that was enough for us. Maybe if we were making some big glass purchases we would want more time, but for us it was fine.

I forgot about the Palace. That was very cool. We saw all of that in the morning, and then just spent our afternoon and evening shopping. We did our gondala ride the night before, but you could probably go sightseeing in the morning, shopping in the afternoon, and then the gondola ride in the evening.

Re: Italy—Last Question!
You will get mixed reviews on Venice. Venice was our least favorite of places and I think 24 hours is plenty of time. depending on when your going it can get VERY crowded. And the birds...oh the birds...so many of them (pigeons) I got kind grossed out at them. It also gets kind dirty and smell. The one thing I would definitly chak out is the Marono (sp?) glass factory. That was pretty cool. And if you buy stuff there they will shipp to your house for free.
Just my 2 cents...

Re: Italy—Last Question!
I think 1 day in Venice is enough. DH and I spent 2 days there and I wish that we had spent an extra day in Tuscany instead.
