It's Breaking My Heart TRYING To Take Away DD's Ba-Ba (bottle)...Advise?

Chloe is 21 MOS. She worships her bottle like there's no tomorrow. Its her comfort, her friendChat Icon I try to wean her off but I am having a VERY difficult time. I do give her juice in a sippy but MILK "must" be in a bottle or else she cries hysterical. That sweet little voice begging "MAMA", for a "BA-BA" always seems to win me over. I know I am to "blame" here but if her teeth are GOOD (and they are) then why can't she still have bottles at 21 MOS?

Advise? Suggestions?

Thanks!

Keri

Do what works for you. You do not have to take them away. I didnt get rid of DD's bottle until she was over 2. Noone saw her drink them except familiy and she only got 2 bottles a day at the time. One in the morning and one at night.

She still drinks milk in a sippy but she still drinks it like a baby (laying on the couch watching television) and she is 3 1/2.

DS is almost 15 months and still drinking a bottle and I dont plan on taking it away for a while.

ha! don't beat yourself up. Whatever works for you. AJ still gets her 'nightcap' which is the last bottle of the day. I figure its a small victory.

Did you try giving her chocolate milk in the sippy?

at about a year I ditched all her bottles except the night one and that was only cause she didnt really drink anywhere NEAR the amount of milk as she did with bottles.

I would ONLY put milk in the sippy and eventually she just started drinking it.

My DS took a bottle well after his 2nd birthday and my DD is on the same path...

It was never super important to me to wean them off, they both found/find comfort in their ba-ba and really enjoy it so I didl not take it away from them ...

When DS ( now 4.5) stopped, he just stopped on his own and that was fine with me ...His teeth, speech and all that happy stuff are just fine....

I don't see anything wrong with her still drinking a bottle at 21 months. I think I will stop giving them to my DD at about 2 1/2 unless she is done with them sooner. She is still a baby - don't rush.

Ry is two and still gets his bottle. I don't think it is such a big deal. Just remember-they won't be going to kindergarten with it.Chat Icon

Took us till a month before his 3rd birthday, he LOVED this thing like no tommorow...He had one in the AM, one in the PM..only milk, nothing else. NEVER drank milk from a sippy even once!

Long story short, he only asked for it twice after he "gave it " to the " Baba Fairy" ( in return for a huge arse gift Chat Icon ) ....But I never ever ever ever thought it would be as easy as it was.

he just had to be "Ready.

We put the idea in his head every day for weeks, till one day he said, OK, I'll do it...and did.

I see no probelm with a bottle at 21 months. As long as she is not drinking from it all day long, I don't see a problem with giving her one once or twice a day.
I'm no help though, since my DS is 16m and still getting two bottles a day.

Do what you need to do. I tried taking bottles away from DS and he was NOT having it. For two weeks I tried differnt things. I gave him a straw cup with milk, chocolate milk, strawberry milk, different cups, pediasure (he gets it once a day) and he refused everything out of the cups. I asked my ped and he said it was more important that he drank the milk. He told me that we will try when he turns two. Don't let what other people say get to you.

Re: It's Breaking My Heart TRYING To Take Away DD's Ba-Ba (bottle)...Advise?

There was a point in time when I would have said, NO BOTTLES after a year old. But having been there and done that now, I had my daughter off bottles at 12 months and so what? What difference would it had made if she had a bottle until she was 4? It makes no difference. I believe that the guidelines for getting rid of the bottle and pacifier according to the pediatric dentist association is before their permanent teeth come in. In my book, that gives you plenty of time to get rid of itChat Icon

I have the same problem but I haven't even tried to take it away. DD had a pacifier until almost 3 and gave it up no problem. I'll deal with it then. He has it at home only so I can deal. We've been to the dentist. He's got no problems and honestly it makes my life easier so I don't really care what anyone else has to say about it.

DS took himself off them just before his 2nd Bday...he just refused them all weekend when home with us....so after 3 days of that....when it was time to go back to the sitter I did not even send one.

I was not going to TRY to make him stop.....he just did on his own. He too used as comfort....cryed for it too.....

Nothing wrong with it!Chat Icon

Abby only takes milk from a bottle - everything else in a sippy cup. She ain't gonna walk down the aisle with it so it stays. Every kid has their thing they hold onto. If this is the worst thing we have to deal with in her development, so be it.
