Trying to get DS to take a formula bottle and he won't

I know there have been a million posts on this but I can't find any that say if DC eventually started taking the bottle. I am on day two of having DH try to give DS formula for one feeding and he will not take the bottle AT ALL. He has gotten bottles here and there in the past (of BM) maybe once a month and he was always fine. But now he won't take it at all and he starts screaming bloody murder after a while. I don't want to nurse after that b/c I don't want him to know if he doesn't takke the bottle he can get this. So he is missing a feeding. I'm a nervous wreck right now... Any advice would be greatly appreciatedChat Icon

DS would not take any bottle with bm, finally I found two things that worked. First he likes the nuk bottles, I guess he likes the nipple shape better, the avent ones were making him gag. Also if he was in the same position of nursing he would take it. I always feed him on a pillow on my lap and when my mom tried that to give him the bottle he took it. Also, did you warm the formula? Hope this helps.

Did you try mixing the formula with the BM? DD refused formula at first until we mixed it. We started with about 3/4 BM and 1/4 formula for a few feedings, then 1/2 and 1/2 then 1/4 BM and 3/4 formula until she could deal with the different taste of all formula.

Good luck!Chat Icon

I think that's a great tip! Also I posted last night about the adiri bottle. It's shaped like a boob. I also rub the tip with breast milk and my dd has been taking it like a champ. I feel your pain. It's so frustrating!

I just posted about this over the weekend - that DD was SCREAMING her head off at every feeding (and making mommy cry). We tried switching bottles (Dr. Browns, then Avent, then Born Free), then switching formula and finally we've been cutting the formula with breast milk. We're at 3oz formula to 1 oz BM and she's doing really well. Give it a try!

I rushed it a little because my supply has decreased but since I started pumping again it's coming back up. I'm keeping DD at this 3:1 ratio for another 2 days and then I'll try straight formula again on Friday.

Good luck! Chat Icon
