we recently discovered that the bottle of Veuve Cliquot that was given to us last Christmas was actually a bottle of Louis Roederer CRISTAL in disguise.

Looking it up, it averages in price about $250 Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

so my question to you is this,

WHAT event in life merits drinking down a weeks worth of groceries?

I can GUARANTEE you that it will NOT be to celebrate my pregnancy Chat Icon Chat Icon but I am hard pressed to think of an event special enough to crack that bad boy open (knowing the chances of it being replaces are slim to none)

thoughts?

what would you do for a Klondike bar?

I don't think you need a special occasion to crack open the bottle!

This may sound completely cheesey (which I am so not), but you are alive and well and I think you should crack it open and celebrate life! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

This is a reward in and of itself. Chat Icon

DH doesn't like bubbly, so I'd be drinking it alone. So I'd have to think of an individual achievement (and no, multiple Os don't count Chat Icon). Perhaps paying off ALL of my debt, since having a baby or buying a house would be a joint accomplishment.

the problem is not the opening of the bottle, but my Chat Icon at how quickly it would finish.

thankfully, the multiple O happens with enough frequency that it can be celebrated with a good glass of wine Chat Icon

Honestly, I was thinking the same thing.

I've stopped looking for that big reason to celebrate. Life is too short and too precious to wait.

Re: It's Friday...let's talk Bubbly

Since I grew up 1.5 hour where they make this bubbly stuff... anything is (well, was!!!) an excuse to celebrate.

Open it up on a nice night with DH, friends... or just by yourself!!! No need to have a special occasion.

Just enjoy!!! Chat Icon

Oh that Bubbly! Boy was I was happy to see this thread wasn't about "Bubbly" by Colbie Caillat! Tired of that song.

I agree with most of the previous posters. Life is too short. I would just drink it and be grateful you are here to enjoy it.

Re: It's Friday...let's talk Bubbly

when he learned we were engaged, a friend of mine gave us a $250 bottle of cab from Napa during some drought or something... 1990 maybe?

we're popping it the night before the wedding at Thanksgiving Dinner to kick the weekend off right Chat Icon

I think having a $250 bottle of Champagne is as good a reason as any to celebrate!

For me though, I'd probably wait until we could share it with someone , since DH doesn't really like champagne, and if i drank the whole bottle, I wouldn't really notice if it cost $250 or $2.50!

same applies to Cristal Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: It's Friday...let's talk Bubbly

Despite popular belief, not all wine gets better with age and all wine has a life span. Read up on what you've got so you know how long it will still be good. Make sure to drink it before then. (Just saying you might want to pick a sooner occasion rather than later...) Chat Icon

I had a $900 bottle of Dom for New Years a few years ago. It was basically the last year it would still be good, so my cousins figured "might as well drink it now than let it go bad."

Also, be sure to store it properly. You do NOT want to keep it in the fridge too long. Best in a wine fridge, but cool and dry are a must.

Just being alive!

With all the sadness going on in this world, I don't think you need a "special" day to break that puppy open - do it tonight and take some time to reflect on all that you have at this very moment

it's a 1999...which is drinking "very well" right now, according to the experts.

yes, I think that we'll just let the opening dictate the special occassion (that, and the mysterious one0night disappearance of my live-in MIL) Chat Icon

and I LOVE the movie SidewaysChat Icon
