Aside from the nasty remark, I don't think the police officer really did anything wrong. The guy was acting a little crazy - and considering the circumstances, that is certainly understandable....but how does the officer know what is really going on? The guy could have been high, and lying to get out of the ticket. The officer has an obligation to everyone else on that road to take every precaution.
But, yeah, he shouldn't have said "You can get another dog."

The officer should be terminated, he abused his power. It was obvious the dog was dying, he did not care, he purposely dragged it on for 20 minutes.

100 is FAST I think he deserves a ticket but honestly I PROBABLY (never know unless you are in that situation) kepts going and let them arrest me when I got to the vet. It would have been worth it to save my Rudy

ITA. The fact that he dragged it on for 20 minutes is absurd and uncalled for. Not to mention the comments.
BTW I have been on the other end of a high speeding ticket, and more than once  Never did it take more than 5 minutes, and that was even before the little computers were in the cars & they had to "call in" licenses.

I cannot believe how heartless people can be. I understand why the man was pulled over but why couldn't the cop follow him once he knew where he was going? Regardless, there was no need to be so heartless.
I told DH that if this ever happens to me, he'll have to come bail me out of jail b/c I am not stopping until we get to the vet. Poor dog, may he rest in peace

If the cop was a nice guy, he would've escorted the family to the vet!!!! I am disgusted with him and this story makes me so sad!

Wow that cop is so coldhearted and I am guessing not an animal lover but I am not saying it was right to speed . Atleast the cop could do was help him out alittle.

the comment wasn't appropriate or needed.
on the other hand, 100 mph isn't safe for anyone -- it isn't safe for the hundreds of innocent people on the road with him that could have been hit or killed -- and, for that matter, if he would have gotten into a major accident how would that have helped the poodle? it is difficult but you need to try and think clearly in an emergency. i'm wondering what the dog passed from -- if the 20 minutes would have made a difference or if it was something that the vet could not have helped anyway, KWIM?
100 mph is extremely dangerous and excessive.
the driver could have handled it better and the policeman could have been more sensitive but he was probably worked up over the fact that he had someone going that speed on the road. at that rate, he hits anyone and someone is going to be seriously injured or killed.

I definitely dont agree with the speed but I really think the officer could have been more sympathetic to the situation. Ok, he was acting crazy, assess the situation and help if possible.
