I was able to feed my DD breastmilk only until 11 months and then mixed with cow's milk until I go through my freezer supply. Chat Icon (went back to work FT at 3 months!)

Made it to a year when DS self weaned and my supply dropped. Would have loved to go even longer! Hoping to go longer with this baby!

Re: It's World Breastfeeding Week- what's your success story?

At about 8 weeks I had a HUGE dip in my supply.... for 2 weeks I did nothing but eat oatmeal, drink water, take every herbal remedy that exsisted, and pump/nursed around the clock... the day I was ready to throw in the towel (I called DH and said bring home formula on your way home from work) my supply came back!

I went on to EBF DS for 10 months, which at that point I started supplementing my frozen milk with formula...

DS was given my milk until 13 months oldChat Icon Chat Icon

I worked through 2 HORRIBLE cases of mastitis, 3 clogged ducts and went back to work FT at 3 months PP... I pumped literally every 3 hrs daily when away from baby!!!

At one point (before buying the deep freezer for milk storage) this was my kitchen freezer: External Image

One of the pics Im most proud ofChat Icon Chat Icon .... funny but true! BFing was one of the hardest things I have ever done and I feel so accomplished for doing it! (even through the hurdles!!!)

Re: It's World Breastfeeding Week- what's your success story?

We EBF for 26 months Chat Icon
It was challenging, frustrating, painful at times (clogged ducts, etc) but so fulfilling and rewarding. I am hoping to be able to do the same with DD#2 - where we wean together.

Re: It's World Breastfeeding Week- what's your success story?

3 years with DD!!! She was EBF - no formula and no pumping as I was a WAHM so it was easier for me to feed her than to pump.

DS - 2 years - I HAD to wean him as I had surgery and it was probably time so bit the bullet. He was EBF too.

Re: It's World Breastfeeding Week- what's your success story?

13.5 months with DD before she self-weaned. Supplemented with one bottle of formula on daycare days due to being a crappy pumper.

BF DS for 13 months, not a drop of formula ever.

Wasn't so lucky with DD, I got sick and lost my supply.

Re: It's World Breastfeeding Week- what's your success story?

EBF DS #1 until he was 15 months old. I had to wean him because I was pregnant again and just couldn't take it. He never had formula.

EBF DS #2 until he was 11.5 months old. He weaned himself off the breast and breastmilk once he got a taste of whole milk. The only formula he had was immediately upon birth when his sugar was low and he needed a small nursette bottle.

I consider it a huge accomplishment that I pumped twice a day at work (at times I had to literally force people out of my office) and once or twice a day at home. My supply tanked once I got my period again and I was able to pump enough milk to go as long as I did.

DD is only 8w, but it took a lot for us to get to where we are. She (and I!) had problems latching and it took 3 weeks and 3 lactation consultants to get her to nurse with a shield. At 6 weeks I finally weaned her from the shield. I pumped (and still do - going back to work in a few weeks) to keep up my supply and supplemented the first few weeks, but now she is EBF, and I am hoping to continue when I go back to work. We worked too hard to give up now!

Re: It's World Breastfeeding Week- what's your success story?

ds was bf for 14 months. we nursed through a weak shallow latch, flat nipples, thrush and low supply. He self weaned at 14 months.

Dd is a power nurser. I never had any issues with her except refusing to drink pumped milk. She is still nursing at 22 months but has begun to wean Chat Icon She still nurses 12:30am to 4am.

Love this! DD was EBF until 9.5 months, when I went back to work. Then she went to half BM half FF. Now, at 13 months, my schedule is changing and we should be going back to full EBF. I'm so excited! Chat Icon Throwing away the pump forever.
