IUI #1 is a bust
Havent gotten the official call from the doc yet (went for blood today) but I tested this morning and I got a BFN I least I can stop taking these dreadful suppositories soon.
Did anyone do just two IUI's then go onto IVF? Im getting antsy...

If u r getting antsy, it can't hurt to meet w/ your dr for an IVF consult. Even if u decide not to start for a few months, at least you'll have to info when u r ready to move forward.

Re: IUI #1 is a bust (UPDATE)
Well... got the call and it was negative, which I already knew. I still broke down though. This was the first time I cried after a BFN.
For so long I would tell myself "it will happen when its supposed to happen" now, after 14 months, continuous testing with and "unexplained infertility" diagonsis, I keep asking myself "why is it not happening? will it ever happen?"
I have done two months of 50mgs of clomid (one with timed intercourse and one with IUI). I would like to try one more IUI then go right to IVF. I emailed my dr and asked about injectables rather than clomid. I also asked for an appt so my husband can go along and hear for himself about our options and the process.
For those on injectibles, why did the dr. use those rather than clomid? How often do you have to give yourself a shot?
Going into this whole IF thing, I was terrified of having twins...the money aspect, could we handle two babies... now I feel I would be blessed with twins. Im not scared of it anymore. I think for this reason I am wanting to take a more aggressive approach.
Thanks for listening. No one other than my DH knows about our IF issues, so it is so nice to have supportive people that understand to talk to.

Re: IUI #1 is a bust
I can relate to your story. My DH and I are also unexplained. We wnet to see a RE Jan 2009 and after some testing and a laproscopic surgery, we decided to do IUI w/ injectables. I didn't even want to do clomid. The injectables were easy because the ultimate goal is to have a baby, I started w/ lupron and then bravelle (days 4-12) and then when the follicles were a good size (a sono) was performed to determine this, I would trigger w/ ovidrel to get me to ovulate and IUI would be performed the next morning and again the following morning. IUI round #1 was in August it was also a bust. The dr's office was pushing IVF and my husband I said no we wanted to try IUI at least 3 times. IUI #2 was October and it was a SUCCESS!! Today I am 8 weeks pregnant w/ twins due July 7. I felt clomid was so slow and couldn't be bothered. U should try IUI for at least 3 times.

Re: IUI #1 is a bust
Hi Katie. I'm so sorry first of all. I am exactly in your shoes right now. We have been TTC for 16 months now with 2 rounds of clomid at 50mg with timed intercourse and then this was my first cycle of IUI and Injectibles. My RE didn't recommend to keep trying with clomid. He said that clomid wouldn't be the right choice for somethign to actually happen right now and strongly recommended injectibles and a trigger shot. I am on suppositories now and I was due for my AF today. I took 3 HPT and got all BFN, but still holding my breath. Went in today for blood work, suppose to get the call on Friday. The nurse said not to give up home and forget the HPTs adn wait for the blood work, so two more days of torture, but two more days of hope. Lots of luck to you on your next round.

Re: IUI #1 is a bust
I'm sorry, it is never easy. I went to injectibles after 4 rounds of iui with clomid. We were basically unexplained, with slight MF. It definitely helps to get info. and hear about all your options. Before going to injectibles, I was finding out about IVF. I decided to wait until injectibles and we got PG on first round. It helped me to hear all the choices and info though, so nothing wrong with educating yourself and your DH to see what you're comfortable with.

Re: IUI #1 is a bust
Sorry.
I went through 1 round of Clomid w/o anything.
2 rounds w monitoring & IUI.
1 round w injections (which made the transfer to IVF much easier).
Now I'm in IVF-prep land.
I think I came to the realization that the IUIs weren't going to work with the last Clomid/1 st injection cycle. I just think something isn't connecting right in my system.
You also have to look at your response to the meds.
I'd say: give it all you can before IVF (but start planning now). It's SO much easier and cheaper to IUI. Start looking over what insurance will cover & start saving for it from day 1.
