IUI with an Immature Follicle?
I was in the REs office today for bloodwork and sono to check my follicles.. today is cycle day 30 (I have crazy long cycles) and I only had one folly on my left ovary and it was measuring 14mm.
They called me with the results of my bloodwork and told me by LH was 25.9 and that I was beginning to surge and to come in tomorrow for an IUI.
What do you girls think? Is there even a shot of getting pregnant with a 14mm?
Also, do you think the follicle keeps growing until I ovulate? Like if I ovulate tomorrow maybe it will be a 16mm?
(Just some background, I usually ovulate with 16mm follicles, also, I was just in two days ago and there were no follys larger than 10mm which means this folly grew 5mm in two days)
HELP!

Re: IUI with an Immature Follicle?
im assuming you aren't doing a medicated cycle??
i would guess that if you didn't do a trigger shot but are having a natural LH surge with a 14mm follie... that your RE should be doing A LOT more to help get you pregnant. that's not to say that it's not possible, but it doesn't make sense why your RE would be letting you cycle this way. IMO an REs job is to get you your cycle to a point where pregnancy possibility is optimal, and this sounds far from optimal. im sorry, its just my honest opinion.
when i was cycling the RE would sometimes trigger me early, with 3-5 16-18s, and the cycles were BFN. the RE did this to minimize other smaller follies from catching up and causing too high a risk of high order multiples (i was a good responder to injectable meds). after a few cycles though we moved to IVF because the RE felt the early trigger was causing the BFNs because the eggs weren't mature enough yet.
all that being said, you can absolutely get pregnant, crazier things have happened. it just doesn't sound like an ideal situation for an IUI. good luck!!!

Re: IUI with an Immature Follicle?
Why is the doctor doing an IUI with no meds and no trigger..meaning what is the benefit of the IUI? I have to agree with PP that it seems off to me. You have these super long cycles and you're surging too early. Why no intervention? And with no intervention, why the IUI over TI?
What I will say in terms of your question is that I had a bunch of 14s when I did IVF that were mature and fertilized with ICSI...but they didn't make very good embryos. But in general I seem to have trouble making good embryos, so it might just be me.

The reason no meds or trigger is that she is probably doing a nonmedicated natural IUI, which is very common if you don't want to do medicated. They just work with your natural cycle, no meds, no trigger. As for surging with a 14mm, I can't answer about that.

This is true. We were trying an unmedicated cycle but ended up not even doing the IUI because the follicle was so small. womp womp
