Q about follicle growth and IUI

how fast do follicles typically grow, on a stimulated cycle? is it 1mm per day? last month i wasn't ready to trigger until CD 16, this month I went in on CD 10 for monitoring and my largest follie was already measuring 17 mm, so they told me to come back Tuesday.. just worried that if i trigger on Tues, my IUI will end up Wednesday when DH cant be there (work conflict for him)! If i wait until Wednesday though to trigger (for IUI on Thursday) i'm afraid the follies may be too big Chat Icon I am guessing they look for a follie around 20mm?

Also, how long should I expect to be at my RE's office for the IUI? I don't know if i would have to call in sick to work or not..

Thanks!! Chat Icon

Re: Q about follicle growth and IUI

Wow great question! I wondered the same thing until this morning when I went in for IUI.

I started Clomid on CD3 and on CD 12 my follies were 15mm - 16mm. I went back for tracking on CD 15 and they were already 19 and 20mm. I triggered yesterday and went in this morning for IUI.
Today is CD 17 and it was 23 and 25 mm!!!! Chat Icon

iui only takes a minute or so for the procedure, then you hang out for 10-15 minutes to lay down. You my have to schedule some time in if you have a curved cervix and it takes them time to get the cath in. You would know this if you had an HSG.

I hope that this helps to answer your question!

Re: Q about follicle growth and IUI

Each cycle really varies. I have done clomid and than iui. This past cycle took 16 days from the finish of clomid to have my iui, but my follies grew very slowly and we waited until I had a size 24. Fortunately this past cycle was a success and I am currently 8 weeks pg. Some cycles would only be like 10 days, like I said each cycle was different for me.

For the iui, once you drop of the sample it takes about an hour for them to wash and prepare the sperm for the iui. The actual iui is only a few minutes and than my RE would have me lay flat for 10 mins.

Re: Q about follicle growth and IUI

thanks all, i went in this morning instead of tomorrow (even though i had to wait a while to be seen) and i'm glad I did, my largest follie is now over 23mm! funny how some cycles they grow slowly and others quickly! so i triggered today for tomorrow morning IUI... as much as i didn't want to tell work that i have a doc appt, i think i'm going to have to because they said allow for up to 3 hours waiting time! so that would put me after 11am! so i may just have to take a half day.. oh well... thanks again for the advice!!
