i've heard about fatigue early on - anyone have INSOMNIA?

i should preface this by saying that i was never the best sleeper... but this is ridiculous. i am working the night shift and when i get home i can't sleep more than 3-4 hours! at first i thought the insomnia was just from having to change my internal clock, etc. but now this is my second week, and i still can't sleep!!

i feel like everyone experiences fatigue early on in pregnancy, but for me it's the opposite.

has anyone else had this experience? what did you do to make it better?

I was exhausted and sleeping tons up until ~10 weeks maybe. Ever since then (besides when I was sick), I can't sleep at all. Can't fall asleep, can't stay asleep. Chat Icon It's so frustrating! I'm not a great sleeper to begin with, and I can't sleep on my stomach any more...it makes it nearly impossible for me to get even 6 hours a night. I just don't sleep.

So I can definitely feel your pain, and don't have any advice, unfortunately!

I notice that I have great sleeping nights and then I have insomnia nights. In the beginning I couldnt sleep at all. I was actually happy for the fatigue to kick in.

In the beginning no... but since the 2nd trimester I've become the queen of insomnia!

In my first trimester, I had no trouble falling asleep (which, before, had been a problem for me.) But I had a terrible time staying asleep. I'd wake up, sometimes for a few hours, and sometimes I'd be SOOO hungry that I'd have to get up and make a snack. Chat Icon

For me, too, a lot of it was anxiety, about the pregnancy, and I'd find myself stressing about something bad happening to DH or my family. I couldn't turn off my brain, and that made it a lot harder to fall back to sleep.

thanks, girls. i feel so much better. sometimes i don't know what i would do without this website Chat Icon Chat Icon

my husband and i are trying to work out a switch, where he would take the rest of my night shift and i would work days for him. that might help me get on a normal sleep schedule - i mean, at least i would be going to sleep when my body thinks it's supposed to.

My 2nd trimester was exactly like that! I never really slept more than 4 or 5 hours a night and I was constantly tossing and turning the whole night. It's gotten so much better in the last few weeks....I'm 27 weeks now.

Re: i've heard about fatigue early on - anyone have INSOMNIA?

I was a professional sleeper before I was pregnant. I slept 8 or so hours every night solidly. At about week 5 I started waking up to go to the bathroom around 2-3am every night, some nights I can't fall back to sleep and it drives me nuts.

It's just starting to get better now and if wake up I can usually drift right off again.
