IVF and returning to a labor intense job
So I run a store. I lift a lot and I'm on my feet 90% of the day. I am about a week away from my Transfer and I am trying to plan my work schedule.
So the dr. told me that I had to have 2 days bed rest but then could return to work. So at my base line I asked the dr. I was seeing, if my job is very labor intensive how long should I take off before going back. He said 2 days.
I really feel like I should take off longer, at least a week. But I am not sure how long is enough and when I should lift again. I'm going to ask another dr. if I see a different one tomorrow, but just wondering what people who have been through it think.

Can you just take it easy after you come back and not lift anything?

Re: IVF and returning to a labor intense job
I have a very labor intensive job and after my first transfer I took two days...did nothing but eat pineapple core and drink grape juice and NADA...
After the second transfer, I had a family emergency so I had just taken a bunch of time off and had to go back to work the next day... cut back on the lifting if I could... and that's the one that worked!!
GOOD LUCK!!

Thanks for the advice.
Unfortunately when I am work I am generally there alone, so its hard to cut back on anything.

Re: IVF and returning to a labor intense job
I think 2 days is enough- once the eggs are in I don't think that they are going anywhere. I did nothing but lay on the couch for 2 days with a pillow under my butt and went back to my crazy job the day after that. My IVF was a success.
Funny story- as soon as I got into the car to leave the office after the transfer, I sneezed. I freaked out thinking I dislodged the eggs but nope. I think we all worry but once they are in, it's up to them to implant.
Good luck!

Re: IVF and returning to a labor intense job
can you plan it so that when you get back you don't that anything that heavy to lift?

I think you are supposed to avoid heavy lifting for a while....is there any way you can get your team to do more and come up with some medical abdominal excuse?

There is no team. I am in the store by myself 9-5.
I run an ice store.
I go in during the morning and make the ice fresh, then lift the heavy buckets to take them off the machine and put them where they go. Even the mix bottles are 5-7lbs and the sugar bags are 5lbs each.
Setting up the store I pump the ice every morning to break up the solid ice and get the mix flowing back through the ice, which is a total ab workout.
On Mondays and Wednesdays when inventory comes in I have to put it away. On Mondays and Fridays when I take inventory I have to lift things to get to inventory under it. If something runs out I lift stuff to replace it.
There is no one else to rely on.

It sounds like you are worried about going back to work so soon. I would take a few extra days off if possible to rest and ease your mind. Every IVF cycle has a lot riding on it and I wouldn't risk anything especially when you are already questioning it.
Best of luck!!!!

Agreed. And speak with your doctor.

Thanks…. I guess the reason I am questioning it at all is I don't get paid if I am not there. Otherwise it would be a no brainer.

Personally I would take it a little easier and it doesn't seem like you can with your job. Also be more conscious how you lift things. I have tried to lift things more carefully since transfer. Personally with all the money I spend on an IVF I would take off a few days. With IUI I might have gone back to work sooner. Stinks that you don't get paid if you don't work. I just worry a lot. Most people who are not dealing with IF just do their normal routine and then find out they have a BFP.
GL with whatever you decide.

Thanks for all of your advice ladies. I think I am going to take a week off after the Transfer from my regular shift, but go in to do some marketing, catering and inventory (with help lifting), this way I make some grocery money over the week and I am not sitting on my @ss at home.
