TTC, IVF and looking for new job
I am being laid off later this summer (they gave us 4 months notice). At the same time, I am trying to figure out when to return to the IVF clinic for our second attempt. I am thinking either June or July. I'll be 34 later this year and I really don't want to prolong it anymore.
I am really worried that I will find a new job AFTER I'm pregnant (I hope I get pregnant!!) and even though it's illegal, no employer is going to hire a pregnant woman. I'm also worried that if I get pregnant shortly after being hired, they will assume I'm there JUST for the medical benefits (which isn't true) and find a legal excuse to get rid of me after I give birth. Then I will be looking for another job one year from now.
I know I can't put my personal life on hold, and I get good benefits from my DH's job, but I am worried how to proceed!
Any advice?

I say go straight ahead. It always works out the way it should. I would not put off trying or looking for another job. You can't predict what will happen so why try to speculate?

Exactly. as tough as it is because you want to be able to plan, you just don't know how long it will take you to get pregnant again. it could happen first month, could take you 6 months. so i say don't put your life on hold

Re: TTC, IVF and looking for new job
I would do the IVF again ASAP.
It is so hard to get time off when you are newly hired (and it'll look bad too). I don't know what kind of work you do... but it's not easy juggling an IVF schedule with a new job (and I was already at my workplace for over 1 yr).
Yup. It'll be hard to find a new job once you are pregnant. Next to impossible. A good friend of mine tried.
You also have to think of how long you want to take off once baby is here. You have to work at a place for 1 year to qualify for FMLA.
Who knows? This may be an ideal time to try your hands at a part time job that you are prob. overqualified for short-term.

Don't put your life on hold. I was in the same position as you and decided to move ahead with it. Life just works out in the end. I know its stressing but it will all work out in the end for you!

Re: TTC, IVF and looking for new job
Don't put your life on hold for TTC/IVF. I currently am working, TTC/IVF and decided to look for another job. Take it one day at a time. It also has crossed my mind that "what if I get the job and a month later, I get pregnant?". I've came to the conclusion that "tough luck" and it'll be the best day of my life! I feel like getting pregnant is so out of our control since we are seeking fertility treatment but let's make sure that we still have some control over other aspect of our lives, ex - career. Good luck to you!! I hope you get that dream job and that BFP!

Re: TTC, IVF and looking for new job
i put off medicated TTC for the last two months cause i started a new job. my body decided 3 weeks ago to finally ovulate. i was hoping for a natural BFP from that - but it wasn't in the cards. i was "planning" to start a new cycle in mid-May, but when AF arrived on her own (a rarity for me these days) I decided that my body was telling me to move on, so I am at the beginning of another injectable/femara/a million other pills cycle. i am only 28, but i feel like I waited long enough.
deciding when to do treatments in regards to new jobs is a really tough decision. i really didnt want to wait - it was really an emotional decision for me - but i also tried to look at the big picture and know that i would prefer better maternity leave benefits and if it means waiting a little longer for that BFP so be it. turns out if i get one this cycle it will still be a little earlier than planned - ie. i wont be with the company for a year yet - so i am still risking my maternity benefits (im not even 100% sure what they are but i know many companies require a year of work before paid maternity).
anyway im on a tangent but i just wanted to tell my point of view for some perspective. i think everyone has to make their own decisions based on their own lives - but whatever happens you will be able to work it out.

Re: TTC, IVF and looking for new job
Thanks ladies. I got pregnant on my first IVF attempt but lost the twins at 17 weeks. I am not naive and don't expect to get pregnant on my second attempt right away. If it happens, that's great! But I am not putting my life on hold... I am almost 34 years old!
On my first cycle, I didn't miss any work days. I was just lucky in that my retrieval fell on thanksgiving day and my transfer was on a sunday - so no work days missed. I would come in for monitoring at 7am and be at my desk by 9, so no one here knew. I know I won't have the same luck with my next ET and ER though.
I have put my resume out there and have gotten some interviews. I will proceed with finding a new job ASAP and also go back to my RE when DH and I are ready, regardless of my job situation.
I have a question about the FMLA one year policy: if you start a job on January 1 and get pregnant 3 months later and give birth 9 months after that, you're technically there for a year. Or do you have to be there one year BEFORE getting pregnant?

the way i understood it you have to be with the company for a year before taking the leave - not before getting pregnant. im not at all 100% sure if that is accurate though. thats what my current plan is though

Re: TTC, IVF and looking for new job
I am going through something similar. My bosses have decided to part ways and are going to continue on their own. We now have to decide which partner we are going to stay with or if we want to go elsewhere. We have until June 30th. This information was dumped on us on Friday. I am already in my IVF cycle, probably having my ER/ET in about 3 weeks. I have yet to decide what I am doing about work, I really did not want an stress during this cycle.

Good luck with your decision! I know it's hard, but try not to stress too much over things that are out of your control. It's something I've learned recently, although not yet mastered!
