Re: IVF Blogs
Posted by SweetTooth
I started an IF blog. I haven't posted to it in awhile, but I enjoy writing. I also keep a personal journal.
ETA: Ok now I read all the responses, at first I didn't understand what the OP was saying. I really don't have a problem with people posting updates and personal stuff. I think that this board is so much more than just an "information" forum. People come here for support and friendship as well as information. If you don't want to answer the same kind of question again, then don't. If you aren't interested in someone's news, then don't read it. Its not like this board is so active that if someone posts a few updates its going to bump things to pages 2 or 3.
well put

ITA!
ITA! I have a blog where I post everything that is going on but that is more for me. I love posting here and I am really sad that me (or anyone else) posting updates bores or upsets some people.

Re: IVF Blogs
As a prior IFer I come often to this board to see how people are doing in their IF journey.
I agree with the OP, it's easier to keep up with people's progress if they do a blog-like thread like Melijane. And add in there all your personal non-IF stuff about what your weekend plans are, what you want for dinner, etc. if you feel the need to advertise.
Anyway that's just my opinion. I love to see great news on here!

Re: IVF Blogs
So I'm reading this after posting my long rant of my crazy day and all that personal stuff...OOPPSS!!!
I did like reading melijane's post...it was really helpful since I was going to be going through IVF right after her.
I've been keeping a personal journal for the day to day stuff...today I just needed to get out the craziness in another place.
But I do find it interesting and helpful to read what other people are going through.

Re: IVF Blogs
Although I don't post for myself often, I guess I would be considered a "culprit' of this...I hope it hasnt offended anyone- I have always enjoyed reading others updates, it has given me a lot of faith that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and I have gathered so much information by reading everyones "step by step" that its taken a lot of the fear out of all this crazy stuff...I hoped to do the same for others, but I will be more aware in the future- I never really thought of doing an ongoing update blog because I don't really have all that much to report normally, but I agree that it is a good idea if you do...

dont be silly, its days like that the board is always helpful. Its the mundane things , and teh many posts about those things the OP was referring to.

Melijane's post and other's like that are helpful, I think the OP meant more of post like this by the same poster (this is just an example)
First post - "I'm going to meet the RE on Tuesday" Next post - I"m going to meet the RE tomorrow" Next post - "I'm back from meeting with the RE" next post - "When will I go back to see the RE?"
It would be much easier for the poster to just continue to update in the first post, rather than make 3 additional ones about pretty much the same topic

Re: IVF Blogs
Honestly, I don't see what the big deal is here. Does it really matter if someone makes one thread and updates it or starts a new one for each update? I don't know if this thread was started to single out any particular person, but does it really matter? Is it really so bothersome that it was worth pointing out? I don't see why there should be "rules" for posting on the IF board.

People are different and are always going to have different opinions, but unfortunately we are all binded by the one reason we are on this board
To me constant posting of the same topic makes me think of all of those "rebate checks" posts that were on NFR

I agreee. I just don't understand why this is such a problem. Why is everyone so upset? I agree that it seems like maybe this was started to call out one or a few people. What I don't understand is this... What if you have a specific question related to your cycle? If you just add it to your personal thread then how do you know the people you need to see it.. will see it?
Whatever... I have only been posting here a couple of months and I know I am guilty of this so I am just going to stick to TTC for most of my posting so that no one gets annoyed. That is certinely the land of posting the same thing over and over.

In that case-you would update your title. Updated 5/20 with a question so people can read it and respond I'm not annoyed at all, just elaborating

I guess I am just a little cranky tonight. I just think everyone gets so crazy about LIF postings on all boards. For someone who doesn't come on all day because of work, I miss a lot of stuff and people get so touchy if you accidently repost something. I just think if you don't want to read something, don't open it. KWIM? I get it though. Over on TTC there are so many of the same posts, every week for over a year that I have been reading it. But I just read the titles and don't open the ones I don't want to read, or skim them and pick a new thread. Like I said, I am just sensitive and cranky tonight.

Re: IVF Blogs
I wouldn't say it's a problem and I see nothing wrong with posting different questions at different points. I don't think this is about it being a problem.
It's more about starting frequent new threads, which makes it harder to follow the older threads.
We are all on this board to help and support one another. I don't think the point here was to drive anyone away. It's more to point out that it may be easier and better all around to update some threads as opposed to starting new ones.
If someone posts five different times in one day about an office visit, it makes it much harder to keep track of that persons progress and also it's harder to answer any questions because you can't keep track of what is going on.

Re: IVF Blogs
After reading everyones point of views... I think its really smart to make 1 thread for all of your updates!
I just updated mine so I know what happend what day...
Thanks for the advice!
I do however feel that if someone doesn't WANT to do that, they shouldn't have to...
I personally do like the idea though! THanks!!

Re: IVF Blogs
Ok- here's my 2 cents. I read this thread before I left for my class last night and it's literally been on my mind ever since. I almost answered it last night and chose to wait until this morning so I didn't offend/upset anyone... and I'll try not to. If I'm excited or confused or nervous or scared or thrilled... about something- it's my right to post a new thread- and it's other people's choice whether or not to read it.......... if the only way I could come on this board would be to just search and read old threads, I would've stopped coming a long time ago. I know that I wouldn't be where I am right now. I feel this board is def. about doing research, and sometimes just searching the boards is enough, but more so about forming relationships/friendships... which is done thru posts and FMs... I also think that right now I fall somewhere in the middle- I'm not a newbie to IF and I haven't been here as long as some others. I think that those who have been here longer maybe don't want to read and answer the same post 50 million times, and that's ok - but at the same time a new person, or someone in the middle who is still experiencing new things (like IVF for example) shouldn't be made to feel as though by posting 5+ threads (like I did yesterday) is a bad thing- especially when they have the snowball of feelings that can come with IF. I KNOW for a fact, and I told my DH last night, IVF was something that just was never in my mind- we'd NEVER have to get to that point before getting pg... well guess what- here we are! And I'm nervous, scared, terrified out of my mind.... and at the same time I'm excited and thrilled that we may be given this opportunity- and honestly, I NEVER would've agreed to go through with it without this board, and the same goes for the injectables with IUI... because everyone I know that's done it (that I'm close enough to talk to about it) did it 10+ years ago when things were really different- and they terrified me into thinking that I could never do it!!! Now I come on here and find all of these amazing people in the same boat as me and all of the sudden it seems possible- it's the if she can do it then so can I attitude!!! I'm sorry if this is long. I just feel very strongly about this. I respect those who are going through this, and more so those who have gone through it longer and more in depth. But at the same time I feel that people shouldn't feel as though they're doing anything wrong by posting little pointless (but not to them) posts to others (b/c they could be searched and find the answers) because sometimes we need that support that is tailored to us as opposed to everyone... I hope that makes sense.

I'm certainly not saying that I don't think that people should post how they want to post, its just a suggestion on how everyone can follow everyone's progress in one place. There are some of us here who have been here for a VERY long time, and know the other people's stories. And then there are people who are posting as "newbies" on this board, and people are coming and going so much that its hard to know who's still left here

Totally agree with you. And I just want to add that, most of the time, being completely out of my mind with this IVF stuff, the last thing I want to think about is worrying that my post would annoy some people.

this is what I was getting at... I think this is a great place to share insight, stress, do research, and I understand that the process overwhelming.
BUT, I posted this thread to see if I was in the minority with respect to how people post and maintain updates through their own process, and it seems I am not. At the same time, I understand that the board can be used by anyone, anyhow they choose.
So, in the interest of keeping this light, my only suggesiton is that if someone wants to keep a running history of their process, and this is where they choose to do it, then keeping it in one thread that is updated, will make sure the continuity is there.
Its a rotten road and I wich success to everyone who has to be here

ITA too! I also don't think this board is so busy that it's hard to keep track of people and things like on NFR.
Everyone is different here and we all have our own way of doing things. I loved reading Melijanes updates and I thought the way she did it was great but, that's not for everyone. I would hate to come on this board and be self conscious about my posting style. Sometimes I'm just so excited or confused and just need to get something out. I shouldn't have to worry that I'm posting too much in one day or that what I've posted has been asked before. JMO
