Which injections HAVE to be intramuscular? I am concerned because I obviously can't do those myself and my husband CANNOT handle needles....

Re: IVF injections question
I'm not positive, but I'm under the impression that the HCG and the PIO have to be IM but the rest are sub-q. Can you put a call in to your nurse to confirm? I called my nurse earlier today but haven't heard back from her yet--- it wasn't anything urgent so I'm guessing she'll return my call tomorrow- and I'll confirm what I think it is w/ her and let you know what she tells me BTW- GL!!!!
ETA: I was thinking about this- I know for IUI I used Ovidrel, which was sub-q. I am almost positive that in LI-IVF's medication packet it specifically says the HCG is supposed to be IM. I'll still let you know when I hear from the nurse...

Re: IVF injections question
PIO is IM... my DH also said he could not handle it, but he stepped it up and is now a pro. You get used to it. The anticipation is the worst part of it.
I think it depends with HCG you were given. If it's Ovidril then it's a sub-q injection, I believe Novaral(sp?) is the HCG that is IM.

Re: IVF injections question
I did Novarel and it was also subq....only the progesterone has been IM.
And the anticipation really is the worst part of it.

Re: IVF injections question
I used progesterone supplements instead of PIO so none of my meds were IM. Even though HCG states its IM I was told to inject sub-Q

Re: IVF injections question
I did my HCG IM as well as the PIO.
My DH was terrified of the needles at first too but, I let him practice several times on an orange before he did my first shot and now, he's a pro at it.

Re: IVF injections question
Yep, my hcg was IM too-but it's only one time. The progesterone is every day for 12 weeks if you get pregnant

Re: IVF injections question
My HCG was Novarel and was IM. My progesterone was 3 days IM and then suppositories after that.
Honestly, the IM shot was easier for my DH than the SQ and to me, much less painful.

Not all clinics are alike. If you go to LI IVF, (which I believe you are???) the PIO is for 3 days and then you are on suppositories. If you get pregnant, you continue with the suppositories. No pio. So, only the HCG and then 3 pio shots are IM.

Re: IVF injections question
Well, my DH would not do the IM shot. So, I called a local gyno office and a nurse there did them for me on her own time. She came to my house every night at 8pm. She used to work at a local RE office so she was familiar with the whole procedure. Made it easier and less stressful for me, though it cost me $20 a day. It would have added up if I was succesful b/c my place keeps you on POI for 8-10 wks. but, if that were the case I would not care about the $$. If you are in Eastern Suffolk I can give you her number.

Re: IVF injections question
i haven't done my IM injections yet. My HCG is labeled IM but I was told that I will take it subQ. The PIO is IM for the entire first trimester (pending a pregnancy).

Re: IVF injections question
Thanks so much ladies for all of your help I would be LOST without this board.
I watched a video on how to do menopur (I start tonight). My nurse told me to use the 27 g 1/2 in needle. It's definitely bigger than the lupron needle. Do you HAVE to use the 27 g 1/2 needle with the menopur, or can I use the extra lupron needles I have? Does it make a difference?? I know the lupron needle will be much easier for me to take...

Re: IVF injections question
Bumping for some answers, please!
Also, what time did you do your menopur injection? I am trying to find the "best" time when I know I will be home and not out every night - but it's so hard to do!

Re: IVF injections question
All the subQ shots should be the same size. With menopur you usually have to mix the saline and powder (s) with the big needle (22g 1 1/2") and then change to the smaller needle (27g 1/2").
I always did my shots at 10pm, give or take 1/2 an hour. But, I have no life and did not go out during stimming.

Re: IVF injections question
I would use the needles they gave you for the menopur- they don't look too bad- I have the same ones. Now the other ones UGH- let's not go there- I'll deal w/ pile B when I have to BTW I spoke w/ my nurse today and she confirmed that the HCG is given IM... I told her I was asking for a friend who went there and she said IM
