IVF postponed/cancelled
I am super bummed. This morning I went for blood and sono and tonight I was supposed to start stimming. The Dr. said my sono looked great, and to wait for a call as to further instructions. About an hour later I get a call from my Dr. saying that DH initial genertic report came back and that more testing was needed before going forward. He said that DH may be a carrier for the same condition I have. If he is a carrier, any female children we have run the risk of being deformed. My dr. recommended going back on the pill until the new reports come back. I asked my Dr about possibly seperating the sperm and he said that this method is not full proof and he does not recommend it. He mentioned that embryology may be able to assist with diagnosing, but he really wants DH to have the additional tests done first. So, if DH is indeed a carrier we may be faced with the decision to stay a childless family. Talk about stress and

You must know that you will not remain childless if you chose. There is something called PGD which can test your embryos!

This. There's also donor sperm, donor egg and adoption. You have a lot of options before you get to the "childless" one.
I you get good news.

Yes. PGD is what my Dr. said he would have to do if DH is a carrier. From what I understand though- if DH is a carrier then 100% of our children would have the gene, but only the females would have physical abnormalities.
Right now I am just taking things as they come. My doctor is very knowledgable and I trust his judgement. The waiting game is just killing me.
Also DH and I have talked about it... And we have decided not to go the route of doner egg/sperm or adoption.

I truly hope that you are not faced with having to make any difficult decisions, but you really can't say what you would/would not do unless you are actually faced with that position. It's very easy to say what you would do if you were in some given situation, but if you are actually in it, the truth is you just don't know what you would do. Nothing in the world can prepare you for reality.

I hope that the additional testing helps and you are able to move forward with IVF/PGD

I have to really, really agree with this.
It also sounds like, if you can foot the bill for PGD (in the worst-case scenario of double carrier) you could choose to only consider male embryos and have your own child.

i am so sorry that you are faced with this. I will keep you and your Dh in my prayers that yoru DH is not a carrier. Worst case scenario, like the pp said, you could always consider having male embryo's, so you could still have your own children.

Can PGD determine the sex of the embryo? My understanding was that it couldn't. If I am wrong that would definitely change a lot of things. Thanks!

Re: IVF postponed/cancelled
Yes. PGD can absolutely tell what gender the embryo is. I hope this gives you a little peace of mind
