Jackson was in the hospital over the weekend
On Tuesday of last week, we took him to the doctor because of a nasty cough and a lot of nasal congestion. The doctor told us that he was getting an ear infection, and prescribed antibiotics.
By Friday, the cough was pretty persistant, and Jackson had started to wheeze a little. Daycare had also called to tell us that 2 of the babies had RSV. So we took him to the doctor again. They did a chest x-ray and the doctor said he had pneumonia (this is the second time he's had pneumonia in 6 weeks!) She also had his oxygen levels checked, and she said that they were lower than she'd like to see, so she wanted us to admit him to the hospital where they'd run some tests and hook him up to an IV to get some fluids in him. I almost burst into tears when she said that. The thought of my little baby in the hospital getting poked with needles made me want to throw up .
But we headed over there, and another chest x-ray the next morning confirmed that he had pneumonia, and the test that they did for RSV was positive too.
I stayed with him Friday night and Saturday night, and DH came by to stay with him Saturday afternoon so that I could go home and take a nap and a shower. It was so hard getting Jackson to sleep with all the wires and tubes attached to him. They wanted me to make him sleep on his back so that the oxygen tube wouldn't come out, but Jackson likes to sleep on his stomach now. So I had to get up numerous times each night to flip him on his back because the oxygen monitor would be beeping that his oxygen level was getting low. And then he'd knock the tube out a lot so I'd have to try to pin him down to get it back in. It was awful
He was discharged yesterday and is doing much better now. What an ordeal though. I felt so bad for him.
Anyway, I thought he looked cute in his little hospital gown. Here he is:

Re: Jackson was in the hospital over the weekend
I just went through the same thing with Julia, she had an pneumonia in both her lungs, and was wheezing very bad. We spent 4 days in the hospital, thankgod shes fine now, but still on antibiotics.....
I hope he feels better soon, its so scary when your baby is in the hospital but its the best place for him to be right now, and he will get better soon!
Many 's and 's for him and you!

Re: Jackson was in the hospital over the weekend
Thanks everyone! Just wanted to post this in case any of your babies show the same symptoms (cough, runny nose, fever, wheezing or respiratory difficulties). With the babies in Jackson's daycare, and also with Jackson, the doctors told all of us that it was just a cold!!!! We all had to go back a second time before we found out that it was RSV.

Re: Jackson was in the hospital over the weekend
Glad to hear you caught it early. RSV is definitely not something to mess around with.
Those pictures are precious! (and he does look adorable in the gown). One of my favorite pictures is with DH feeding Joseph with his little wires coming out. It reminds me of how far we've come with him.

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infects nearly all babies by the age of 2. In adults and children, RSV usually causes mild cold-like symptoms. But in premature babies and children with certain other medical conditions, it can develop into a serious respiratory illness requiring hospitalization.

They told us just a cold also - 48 hours later we're at the ER and being admitted. unfortunately the symptoms start off just like a cold. You will know when it gets worse, it's awful

Re: Jackson was in the hospital over the weekend
i know how your feeling. my dd was in the hospital for one week when she was 2 months old with rsv. NOT FUN!! i had to go back and forth to the doctors about 5 times till someone finally checked for rsv and they stopped giving me the "its just a bad cold" bullsh@@ speech. and my ds just got over pnumonia. he older then your son so no hospital was needed. but that cough is SCARY. thank god jackson is ok now.

Re: Jackson was in the hospital over the weekend
The worst (besides getting the IV, which I didn't stay in the room for because I couldn't bear to see it) is when they have to get a chest x-ray. They put them in this thing that looks like a torture device - it squishes them so that they'll stay still for the x-ray
