Re: Jeans on Fridays?

My school has no dress code so I definitely take advantage of that! I wear jeans & other comfortable clothes all the time. I think it's great. As long as a teacher is dressed appropriately and not trashy-looking or a distraction in some way, I don't see a problem with wearing casual clothes... I'm on my feet all day & getting covered in chalk... I don't feel like wearing anything too nice.

same here! in fact, our principal has been known to send people home who show up in jeans - even on snowy days.

The sending people home who wore jeans on snowy days is a little rediculous in my opinion. It's bad enough if you have to drive to work in the snow but then people want you to wear nice clothes only to get them ruined in the snow. Wow!

I totally hear ya!! He feels it takes two seconds to throw more appropriate clothes in the car and change once you get to work.

Wow! Crazy! Changing into new clothes at work. I would never! Our bathrooms are not that clean that I would let my clothes touch the floor.

Sorry to hear your principal is so wacky!

Re: Jeans on Fridays?

Our superintendent feels strongly that jeans and flip flops are not appropriate and that men should wear a shirt and tie every day...and she's not afraid to tell everyone who will listen her opinion on it! Very few teachers in my building wear jeans ever due to this!

Re: Jeans on Fridays?

I'm in NYC, soooooo realisically I could wear them every day for the entire year and nothing would be said or done to me.

Some teahers in my school wear sweats... totally not my style, but whatever. That being said, I'll wear jeans about once a week, not always necessarily on a Friday.

Re: Jeans on Fridays?

WOW- Im really shocked by some of the dress codes... I guess my district is very much laid back (maybe an upstate thing?Chat Icon )

Our Union makes sure they can't enforce any dress code on us- we are grown adults and can choose to wear what we feel. 2 years ago we had a principal who was pusing school unifoms on the kids and wanted the staff to wear them too (khakis and blue polos)
Boy was that an issue!

Re: Jeans on Fridays?

We can wear jeans on Fridays - they do make a request that you donate $1.00 - they have a bucket next to the sign-in sheet. It gets donated to various charities

Most people wear jeans on Friday. My dept. chair told me it was OK to wear them on snowy days, too. When we had an older principal and I was untenured I hardly ever did, though

Re: Jeans on Fridays?

I wore jeans all the time when i taught in NYC.... i also taught kindergarten special education so i was sick of ruining all my clothes from paint, glue and physically, i realyl need comfortable clothes to deal with some of the special ed. mobility issues.

the district i am in now... it's definitely business casual, but almsot no one does it during the week. some do on Fridays. I love school spirit days and field trips because that is the only time i feel really comfortable with it... that said, our principal used to come to school in those velour pant suits and would yell at teachers who wore heels. "how can you wear heels when you work with kids" she would ask...

so it all depends....

Re: Jeans on Fridays?

I work in NYC and I wear jeans maybe 1-2 times a week. When I was pregnant, I would wear jeans more often because nothing else really felt right. It's definitely nice to have the option.

At my old school no one more jeans ever. Ayt my new school it is more commonplace, but I have not done it yet. They may implement a dress down friday as a fundraiser so then i will.

Re: Jeans on Fridays?

We're allowed to once a month (first Fri of the month) as part of a charity thing. There's a charity for that month, and if you donate $5 you can wear jeans that one Friday. Though some tenured teachers wear jeans every now and then.

Re: Jeans on Fridays?

I am in NYC and while some teachers wear them daily, I reserve them for Fridays. I do not even wear them every Friday, just when I am particularly burnt out.

I never wore them until I was tenured and even then it was infrequent.

Now we have a new administration and I wear them every Friday.
