One of my best friends is a jet blue flight attendant out of jfk just like this guy (ironically) and the stories she tells me are unreal... Passengers are really total PITAs... They are rude, obnoxious, and really treat them like garbage! Yet the flight attendents have to keep that smile on and try not to explode in front of pax.... Just be warned, if you fcuk with them, they will retaliate... maybe not as publically as this guy, but your soda will be shaken up, chips crushed, and im not even going to mention the completely horrid things they have been known to do...
Bottom line... be respectful of the crew... they are not your personal servants who can be walked all over!!!
A friend of mine from HS is also a FA on Jet Blue and he always has awful stories about passengers and the unfair working conditions they have to put up with. Sounds like that coupled with the personal issues this guy has been dealing with just made this guy snap. I have to say I when I heard he grabbed beer before he jumped off the plane.

Re: Jet Blue Flight Attendant
This guy is my new hero! Seriously
Reminds me of Michael Douglas in the movie Falling Down!
Side note- even though I think its truly awesome that he used the emergency slide and grabbed a beer on his way out, i kinda do think its sad that he was in AA and this made him fall off the wagon.
People are disgusting the way they treat others in the service industry. As someone who worked in a restaurant for 6 years, TRUST ME- if you're a D0UCHE- you're drinking my spit

Re: Jet Blue Flight Attendant
wow. I don't agree with what the attendant did, but I can relate. I don't agree with what the passenger did either. People can be really rude and he probably snapped. There are worse crimes going on in the world. i don't think this guy deserves jail or anything like that. if thats a cut on his head from the passenger hitting him with his bag, then if I were him I probably would have snapped too! People need to chill out and relax. Good for him for standing up for himself.

That's seriously disgusting! Whether someone is a DB or not, there are other ways to handle it. I am sorry! I cannot agree with you.
I think it's inappropriate for the guy to have lost it. He was in charge of the plane, passengers UNTIL they were all out of the plane. He failed the other passengers. The passenger that hit him should be charged for being unruly and not complying. In some job, you just can't lose your job. You just can't!!!!! Cursing a guy on the intercom. Really? Going out on an emergency ramp. Grabbing a beer on the way. Oh he must have been so proud of himself. As a passenger, I would have been very disturbed by his reaction and be glad we were landed and could not wait to get out of that plane. And wonder if he could have just lost it in the air.

Absolutely!! Over the years, there were plenty of times I would have loved to tell everyone to, "Fuuck Off!" But, I'm sure it would also have made the news since I work for the nypd.

Re: Jet Blue Flight Attendant
I have been in the situation numerous times where someone was out and out inappropriate to me.
While I would never go off like this guy, I can also understand how it's frustrating to be treated this way.
I have had numerous clients scream and yell at me and tell me that "because I am a social worker it was my job to take it".
While I can understand their frustration, that's NOT how the real world works. If you are going to scream and yell or become physically violent your *** might get arrested or taken to the psych ER at the very least.
No one should have to put up with abuse, regardless of what their job title is. I think this is what is wrong with our society today.
As an aside, we actually have clients sign a rights & responsibilities form and BOTH of our responsibilities is to be respectful to one another.
It's extreme, and we have to ethically connect them to other services, but we can refuse to work with clients who are out of control like this.
I also used to work as a waitress and in the restaurant industry and people can be awful.

He could have been taken into custody for disobeying the flight attendant.

Re: Jet Blue Flight Attendant
This might sound dumb but I don't really get why he was arrested... the newspaper said "criminal mischief" and "reckless endangerment" but the plane had already landed? I mean he's definitely nuts but it's not illegal to curse people out is it? He didn't actually physically harm anyone, or strip naked, etc, as far as I know.... He caused a scene, but people do that every day without getting arrested. And yeah, I agree about the passenger!!! That's why I hate people!!!!!

He left the plane. He used an emergency chute to get out. He did not furfill his obligation of safety with passengers leaving the plane.
He grabbed a beer on the way out. Used an intercom to curse somebody out.
The guy does not work for 7/11 and just quit.
Is anyone a flight attendant here on the boards?
What are the true obligations of a FA on board when passengers are still on board?

I don't agree with what he did but I do feel bad for him. I know what it's like to feel not only unappreciated but flat out disrepsected on the job and it sounds like this particular passenger was a first class deu$tchbag.

ITA! Would I love to do that one day? Sure, I think we all would. I'm sure it's even tougher being on a plane. When I'm stressed at work I can easily walk away from my desk and go outside for fresh air, take a drive, sit in my car or call a friend to vent.
Would I put him in the category of Hero? No, b/c to me heros are the firemen or pple like Sully who save lives.

ETA -- I'm about 99% sure he was our flight attendant on a flight we took earlier this year. He was nothing but professional.

Re: Jet Blue Flight Attendant
I've seen FAs have to yell at people a lot. I do feel bad they are so disrespected. When people act like DBs to FAs I want to beat the piss out of them myself!
