Re: JetBlue halts flights to and from New York

Jet Blue f'd up. BIG time. I got back to Florida last night after trying to get out of NY since Friday. Yesterday was my 3rd flight. Guess 3rd's the charm. Not only did JB have a TON of delays and cancellations, their customer service was the absolute pits. They delay delay delay and then cancel. They would announce to call the 1800 Jet Blue number to reschedule flight and by Sunday morning, the number was not even taking phone calls anymore. You would get a message that they had "extremely high call volume" and the call would disconnect. I was one of ten flights from JFK to FLL yesterday. JB cancelled seven of them. SEVEN.
I have a friend who works for JB and he told me that they cancelled 90 out of 150 flights on Saturday. I also found it interesting that the intl flights seemed to be taking off yesterday, yet the domestic was getting screwed left and right. Wonder if the FAA has higher financial sanctions for an airline who cancels an intl flight over a domestic flight?
Meanwhile, my friend waltzed onto her JFK to SF flight yesterday on American with no issue. There is definitely something wrong going on w JB right now and I say this as someone who has a ton of miles with them, their credit card, and ONLY flies them back and forth between NY and FL.
Also, another friend who was delayed got travel vouchers and credits. I had two cancelled flights before I finally got out yesterday and got jack sh1t. A JB employee suggested I tweet about it and I created a twitter account just to do that. Had a response in 20 minutes saying I will be compensated :/ The new FAA regulations compounded an already difficult situation due to Friday's weather and one of the busiest travel weekends of the year, but the new regs obviously apply to all airlines and NO ONE was having the issues JB did!

Absolutely!!

My sister just came back from New Orleans. She was suppose to fly out of NO Monday afternoon and be here Monday night. ALL flights were canceled and they ended up having to drive from New Orealns to New York.

There are some major issues within their infrastructure!
I have been through this before a few years ago when I was suppose to fly from NYC with JetBlue. After delaying our flight for hours and promising that in just a short while everything will be OK, saying first that the plane is not ready, then that the pilot has not arrived, then finally that they can't find flight attendants for this flight, all the while assuring the passengers that the flight will NOT be canceled, JetBLue finally cancelled it and had all the people scrambling for slights and freaking out all over the airport. I was 11 hours late for my destination.

Every airline can have issues, but it's the way they HANDLE the issues that shows what kind of company they are. And JetNlue is one f'd up company with no consideration for their customers and compete lack of customer service!

That sucks and I knew it would be a matter of time before reading one of these stories. The problem is once your flight gets cancelled, you unfortunately go to the back of the line as they aren't going to bump customers on the next day's flights.

The article I posted yesterday explains why JB was having issues with the new FAA rules. I did not know JetBlue was the only airline that doesn't have pilots in the union. The pilot unions require extra rests for their pilots that exceed what is required by the FAA.

For example lets say the non union JetBlue pilots only require 12 hours of sleep before flights (say before the FAA change). Union pilots require 24 hours of sleep. If the FAA decides to change the rule to 18 hours, JetBlue gets screwed (by their own accord) where the other airlines are still fine.
