First of all, Mazel tov! Secondly, nah, I didn't feel a thing No really, it is bad, but it is literally a second. I turned my back during the actual process and stood on the side talking to my sister. We had an orthodox mohel so the women aren't really involved anyway!

Mazel Tov. I was a wreck. I have never prayed harder in my entire life. I was crying and stayed upstairs. My family rabbi stayed upstairs with me during the actual proedure. After the bris and feeding DS, I came downstairs. I will say the cantor who performed it did a great job. It was still the most difficult experience of my entire life.

No, not that bad at all. It's not the bloody, messy scene that you picture at all. Many guests commented that my son barely let out a cry and that the ceremony was beautiful. Do not leave the room and miss that!!! I will never forget being surrounded by DH, friends and family during an event that was so meaningful. I watched the whole thing, closely, as did my husband. We both expected so much worse. It happens fast and we are still not sure how it is done because it does not even look like a procedure is being performed.

Re: Jewish moms that had a bris for their ds.....
I have sat front and center for many a bris. It is NOT, contrary to popular belief, brutal or barbaric in any way. Most of the time, the mother goes into another room because it is a different ballgame when it is your child. People who are not used to seeing one may have an entirely different opinion. But it is NOT all that bad.
An experienced mohel does NOTHING other than this procedure and can do as many as 4 or 5 in one day. Should DH and I have a son, we plan on using an Orthodox mohel who is a 5th generation mohel. He did my nephew's bris almost 16 years ago and all of the young male cousin's on DH's side of the family. As far as I know, none of them have any complaints.

I'm not Jewish, DH is, but I agreed to the bris because I realize how important it is in the Jewish faith. I dreaded it and even cried about it.
But, it wasn't bad at all. We had a wonderful Mohel. DS didn't even cry -- he was fine.

Its not that bad, honestly. They will give him something to help with the pain (a little wine maybe) and he will be fine minutes afterwards!
Good Luck!!!
