JHS question

I Know Top Point is supposed to be pretty inexpensive, but how much is it?

There's a place near me that juststarted doing it and it's $300!! I thought that sounded like a great price...?

Re: JHS question

I paid $230 at Top Point for long & thick hair.
$300 is a good price for out here - what place was it?

ETA_ Try to find out what chemicals they use. The only thing that concerns me is they just started doing it. A lot could go wrong with inexperience. Chat Icon

Re: JHS question

I paid 240 I think and have very thick hair.

But I would have paid 300 to not have to go into queens. Where is it?

Re: JHS question

It's in Port Jeff Station, a place called Cutting Corner.
The girl that does it there is new to the salon, but has been doing JHS for a while.

Re: JHS question

I paid $200 at top point

my hair is down to my bra strap

I would check on the type they use and how long they have been doing it-

when an inexperinced person does it- it's not good

How would I know what a good type is? Are there different brands? Anyone know what to look for?

Re: JHS question

Milbon Liscio is the best one IMO(and I did a lot of research on this for both myslef and for school - just finished taking a hair care science course). #1 reason is they train and certify the stylists that use the products.

You will prpbably be fine though - I am just overly cautious with things like this because of my background and because I didn't want my hair to fall out - I am sure the place is fine. Just ask what products they use and look them up online or ask me if you want to, and ask how long the stylist has been doing it and if she was trained/certified.

Oh god I can't wait, I've had JHS done in November, but it wasnt done correctly, and my hair hasnt been straight since. It took alot of the frizz out, but I still got some left, and a few waves. I hope it goes better this time!

Re: JHS question

I read up on the other salon, The hair village, and they advised to wash your hair before going there.....is it the same for Top Point? Or do they do everything for you?

I just made an appointmnet for 9am Saturday morning!! And thank god I decided to take a ride and check out the parking situation prior b/c it's terrible!!! The have a municipal parking lot not too far, but its 25 cents for 10 min and a 3 hour max...so I'm probably gonna catch a ride there.

Re: JHS question

OK so I went to Top Point Saturday to do the JHS, Janice & Amy did my hair...and although my hair is straight, I wasn't completely satisfied. After they washed my hair for the last time, they blow dried it, and still had to use an iron! I was like "I thought this was supposed to dry pin straight??" and all she could tell me was, if you have any problems come back and see me. I went out that night and had some surprise when I came home, waves in my hair! So I grabbed my straightening iron and straightened it out, then Sunday afternoon when I got home....again....waves. I am soo annoyed! Now I have a patch on my scalp that feels frizzy by the very root and feels almost painful (the feeling when you part your hair one for a long time, and then you decide to part it a different way)

Did anyone else expeience this?? I'm afraid that when I wash my hair, it won't be straight Chat Icon

I had something similar to that happen when I got it done at TP which is why I decided to keep going back to Hair Village. Basically, they didn't get my roots well and I had waves at the roots way too soon after getting it done. I never had waves or frizz throughout the length of my hair though - and it did dry pin straight. So I would go back to Top Point and see her like she said. I don't know what she can do to fix it but you should go back and complain.

Re: JHS question

I just had a friend at work look at the patch, and she said the hair is straight, but super dry and hard at the root (pobably why I confused it for frizz) and it is all red around the area....maybe the chemical burned my scalp?

I did read your post about Hair Village, and the only thing that held me back was that I had to blow dry my own hair....I don't think I'll go back to Top Point next time, maybe I'll just go to Hair Village.

Sandra - how long after you did JHS at TP did you notice frizz at the roots? I have a piece that looks like the root is frizzing a little and of COURSE it's right at the front!! I got it done 2 months ago.

Sandra - I have a question re: blow drying your own hair at HV. Do you have to blow dry it to dry it or blow dry it straight?

Immediately. Like when I got home that night. It wasn't frizz though. It was hard and weird feeling...like the hair at the roots didn't have the chemicals on long enough or something...it was the beginning of curl.

No - it's a quick messy blow dry. You don't have to do it nice or anything. You sit (or stand) and quickly dry it enough for them to continue with the process. You don't even use a brush. It just keeps things moving at the salon.

Also, if you show up with your hair already washed and air dried (or blow dried, whatever) you are just saving yourself alot of time and another quick self blow dry.

It gets better after the first wash, yes. It'll get soft but you'll see that it's your roots already starting to curl.

This happened to me and those parts eventually broke off, leaving me with short broken hairs everywhere. I will never get the JHS ever again!

Re: JHS question

My patch was hard too!

I feel like I'm beginning to notice my roots getting a little fuzzy - after only two months! Going to Florida this week - I guess this will be the true test!

How long do you have to wait until you can get it re-done? 6months? 8 months?
