Job decision help
I need outside, neutral influence here. Help us ladies!!!
DH accepted a job (one that recruited him for nearly a year!!) in November. Less than 2 months later, he was subjected to a partial layoff and large salary cut that greatly hurt us financially. Because of this, he started looking for jobs out of state in more temperate climates.
There are 2 jobs with offers. Both are comparable salaries and cost of living in both areas is pretty similar
Job A:
Free housing while employed No friends or family nearby No benefits $500 towards health insurance through exchange Family owned, no security. DH would be the first gone/affected if financial troubles arise Salaried position, no overtime or bonus etc 1 week vacation, every other weekend off no room for advancement 100% debt free in less than 2 years (including student loans) because no housing costs.
Job B
Full benefits inlcuding 401K, STD, Medical, Dental Friends and family nearby Corporate owned/corporate security 3 weeks vacation, sick time etc Abililty to earn more than base salary via overtime, incentives, and commissions better potential for advancement Longer time to be debt free
I know where we are leaning, but I think we need to hear some unbiased opinions......
Help!!!! Which would YOU choose and why?

Job decision help
Job B without a doubt!!
The free housing with Job A is great, but I think what you're giving up for that (time off, benefits, security) is not worth it.

Definitely Job B. I feel like benefits are so important, and it just sounds more secure.

Re: Job decision help
Job B hands down for all the benefits. 1 medical emergency would put you right back in debt. No way would I give that up.

Job decision help
Job B hands down! The benefits are so important. It also sounds more stable. Though nothing is guaranteed of course, I'd much rather work in a corporate setting.

Job decision help
(I forgot that Job A is giving $500 towards the purchase of health insurance so I added that)
That said, you ladies are awesome.
We are leaning towards Job B ourselves. The jobs are in different states (one in TX, one in FL) and I didn't mention that because I didn't want that to be a factor. :)

Re: Job decision help
JOb A is NOT an option at all.
You don't really want to be on the heath exchange if you can help it.
Looks like there is little security AND he has t work weekends.
The ONLY perk is you could be debt free in 2 years....its not a perk if you loose that job.
Not an option.

B
The only pro you listed for A is being debt free sooner but, if there is no job security - you can't even guarantee that.

Re: Job decision help
B-for all the reasons stated above--and if the job doesn't work out you need to find housing possibly before you are debt free.

B without a hesitation. (1) benefits, benefits, benefits, benefits (2) AND the potential to grow with the company. (3) family nearby

Job B hands down, no comparison, there wouldn't even be a discussion about it. I wouldn't even consider Job A.

i'm a HUGE advocate for being debt-free asap. with that said, i suggest job B. being close to family is a huge factor (heck, i'm moving across the country to be close to family).
plus many of the reasons stated above.
good luck to you!

Job decision help
Thanks all,
Job B is where we really think we want to be, we just need to hear unbiased opinions on it. People around us are "gee it's tough" because they're factoring in location etc.
I don't ever want to work for a family owned firm again. Ever. It's hard to be supportive of small businesses when we've each had such bad experiences working for them.
