Jobs you think are neat & wonder about the salary
Maybe we can list the jobs we always think are pretty cool, and maybe someone else here knows the salary of them?
I always was intrigued by the dolphin (or other sea life) trainers at Discovery Cove, Sea World, etc. I always admire how they seem to have a special relationship with the animals. I also have wondered what they get paid.

I don't know how much they make at Sea World, but DH's BF sister used to do that kind of stuff at the aquarium in Bklyn and he just said her salary was really low.......like maybe between $20K and $30K a year.
She gave it up to be a SAHM about 5 years ago because there was no way they could afford LI daycare on that.

I want to be an archivist at the Vatican Library. Since I'm not a man, and hence not a priest, this seems unlikely .

I hear they get paid more than one would think, and have good benefits, but I don't know any details.

I had a few friends who worked for them. All different positions. Barista, Shift Manager, and Assistant Manager.
The AM made about $35,000 per year.
They tend to have them change stores frequently and you have to move up through all the positions. The shift manager usually gets all the nutty shifts.
They do have benefits and they also have stock purchase plans.
ETA: They are super happy because they are high on caffeine all day!! They also get discounts on drinks and products.

Re: Jobs you think are neat & wonder about the salary
Given that many social work salaries start around that per year, I would totally take that!
I made less for my first several jobs outta college AND I lived in NYC!!!

Re: Jobs you think are neat & wonder about the salary
There is a book where this man did just that...he did different jobs for a week at a time and listed the salary and talked about his experience...

Re: Jobs you think are neat & wonder about the salary
I always wanted to work for the Disney company. Not running, "It's a Small World" or anything (although when I was in college I would have thought that was pretty cool) but doing something in the education department or something like that.
A lot of jobs I think are cool involve starting your own business. I love baking so the idea of owning a bakery sounds cool. I love the idea of having a winery too.

stuntman!
My friend from HS does this but he only does it part time - he has another union job that works around his schedule.... I wonder if it's because of pay/benefits or because work isn't that steady?
Anyway, it's a cool job and it's cool to see movies he worked on!

I know people who worked there in a few different divisions (licensing, publishing, movie production and retail) and they all hated it. They called it either "The Tragic Kingdom" or "Mousechwitz" DH interviewed with their corporate offices in Anaheim when he was graduating college and he was interviewing with someone who had gone to the same school as DH. He told DH flat out not to work there, that it was miserable. That was when Eisner was in charge of the company, so maybe things have improved under Bob Iger.

DH is in radio. Unless you are Elvis Duran the pay and the job stability are pretty bad. DH is in production and loves what he does, but the pay is pretty low.

Good to know, thanks. It must be different if you're working in the parks then. I have a friend who went down there for a semester to do the college program and never came back. Met his wife there, transferred to a college down there, bought a house down there. He's worked for them 7 or 8 years and LOVES it.
