July / August Mommies - christening question
Has anyone started or even booked the dates of DC christening yet? Part of me wants to get going on this now but I wonder if I should wait until after the baby is born.
The church wants to wait until after the baby is born to discuss anything but then I lose over a month to book a place for a party before the winter and cold weather set in.
What is everyone else doing?

Ive always waited until after the baby was born..although I would maybe suggest calling a few places now and see where you stand...(Im talking the restaurants etc) that way you wont waste your time making a million phone calls if you know that some places are booked solid, out of price range, dont have large enough room, etc..

I'm about to start calling places. Upstate, you get the baby baptised fairly quickly after birth, so I'm just used to that.

Re: July / August Mommies - christening question
With my 1st I waited until he was born, but this time around in order for us to have the party at home I have to do it in mid september- I am due mid august. Its a very small time frame and I need to send out invites probably before I have an announcement done! I booked the church date last week because my church wants you to take a class that is held the last monday of every month- that only leaves me july and august to take it. I ordered ribbons for the favors and am looking at catering and tent/table rentals this week while I am off...I know it sounds crazy, but I will not be able to handle that planning with having an 19 month old and newborn.

I started the process with the chapel. I don't have a date, but since we're doing it at USMMA there are a few steps in securing a date, a chaplain, etc.

Re: July / August Mommies - christening question
I am mentally thinking about when and where I want to do it and have stopped in a few places just to see how big they are and the pricing. I have to call the church and find out what days they will do it. I was planning to at least call the church and find out dates before baby is born but starting to run out of time!! I won't book a place but I hope to find a place that will accomodate my group beforehand as well.
I am thinking November before the holiday rush....I want the baby to be 3 months.

Re: July / August Mommies - christening question
I've started looking around, but we won't be able to have the christening until April (I'm due late August) because her Godmother lives in TX and is due with her first in December...

Re: July / August Mommies - christening question
i booked the church. Baby is due 8/7 and the christening is 9/23. We had our 1/2 hour meeting, and the next 2 hour one is scheduled for 7/10. I wanted to get those to meetings out of the way so i dont have any comittments with a newborn. We are inviting everyone back to our house for a party.

Re: July / August Mommies - christening question
I would like to at least book a place before giving birth and have that hurdle out of the way. I guess I'll try talking to the church and see if I can get a date before the baby is born.
Thanks ladies!
