Re: Just back from the doctor

Ladies,

I really can't thank you gals enough. Right now I am also trying to schedule buying our new house and selling our current house. I'm doing all of the negotiating with the buyer of our house as DH is in CA on a business trip running around in the convertibleChat Icon the car rental company gave him!

So let's see I taught the Renaissance today, fought the English Civil War, researched my infertility issues, am countering a bid on my house, calling lawyers and mortgage brokers and.....Chat Icon

DH is in sunny LA driving from client to client in a convertible.

There is no justice in this world... let's see my birthday is coming up and for all of the above DH might be completely brokeChat Icon

Re: Just back from the doctor

Metformin helps women with PCOS ovulate.

It works very well with a healthy eating plan and regular exersice...

As an Irish person don't you remember the dreaded Oliver Cromwell or as my European History teacher, Sr. Eileen called him... the dreaded O.C.. She refused to say his name for what he did to the Irish. I spent three days in sophomore year thinking who is O.C.?Chat Icon

Your doctor seems to have a very positive attitude which is so important. Best of luck to you. Hope his intuition is correct! Chat Icon

Re: Just back from the doctor

I have PCOS, and I just started taking metformin along with dexamethasone, and clomid. I will let you know if I have any reactions. I know these drugs have been successful for women with PCOS.

Re: Just back from the doctor

I just stopped seeing my ob-gyn because I recently found out from the Nurse Practioner that their doctors knew very little about Medformin...I was very upset with them, especially since day one I had told them that my endocrinologist had put me on the medication, and I didn't understand why they were going to put me on "the pill" instead...I actually believed they knew better....I came to find, it's because they had very little knowledge of using the drug, so that's why they don't prescribe it...I went to a reproductive specialists, but she said I should just come back to her when I am ready to conceive....I want to ovulate on my own for a while before I even think of conceiving....well, basically I am searching for a good gynocologist who can help me with my polycystic ovaries, and wanted to know if you knew of a gynocologist who uses this drug, so that I can get a consultation from a doctor who at least knows the drug well enough to presribe it. By the way, I am NOT READY TO HAVE A BABY NOW, but this seemed like the perfect forum to help meChat Icon

Ladies thanks for all of the information and well wishes.

I spoke to DH's aunt last night. She is a retired nurse practioner and spends all day everyday researching drugs, interactions, homeopathic remedies etc. .

She was dissapointed that the prescription for bloodwork wasn't more comprehensive. She wants me to also have my thyriod checked. She couldn't believe that my doctor wasn't running a A1C hemoglobin test on me... only testing my FSH, LH and fasting Serum glocose test.

As these tests require fasting, and I will have to take the morning off from work, I'd rather get a battery of tests done. I also have two house closings coming up which I will have to miss some work for. Add to that this situation and I am trying to greatly reduce the days I have to take. I teach high school so it's not like I can go in late and just stay late.

For any of you who had to have comprehensive bloodwork, what other tests should I have?

Thanks again.

You might not need to take a day off to get your bloodwork done. I have in the past gotten a script for the work needed and gone to Quest Diagnostic - (there are other labs) check who your insurance lets you use. Many are open at 6 or 7am and on sat. so you could go sat morning or early before work. That is what I do when I need to fast for blood work.

BTW - I also have PCOS and just started metformin xr

They can't test for certain things - if you were recently on the pill - so that could be a reason - I am going for more testing after I have been off the pill for a few months - as the pill can mess up results
