I'll clarify my comment.
I think that if you're an expert in a specific field or have a wealth of knowledge on a specific topic...or have a deep passion for a specific topic, etc., then blogging makes sense.
But for me, I think of a blog as a diary. And my diary was very personal. I'd feel so helpless if someone found my diary/innermost thoughts.
I have no judgment...I just know no one would find my musings exciting...and honestly, unless it's on a topic that is of relevance or serious importance to me, I wouldn't read other blogs. No offense.
I've done two blogs so far. One was about my elbow surgery, and my current one is about my house addition. Both times, it's for a finite time period, a defined topic, and it just makes it easier to give people updates by pointing them to the blog. That way, I don't have to remember who I told what to, etc. Plus, I have pics on the blog.
I can't imagine writing a personal journal type blog. I don't think I have that much to say most of the time.

I thought maybe mine was helpful for others going through the same thing I think about something specific - infertility, cancer, etc - people would read and get some useful insight and support, but the general blog on " Hey - this is the crap on my mind today -ever notice how holey sponges are?" would be boring and stupid!

i think yours is differernt in the fact that is specifically focusing on a particular issue you're going through and you're doing it specfically educate people about the process.
however, overall, I feel most blogs are jsut people's thoughts, etc. etc. i don't think that needs to be addressed on-line. unless it's on a specific issue or experience i need, i wouldn't be that interested in reading a blog.

Re: Just curious - how many of you have blogs on here?
My comment was in reference to a plain old day to day blog about my life. I just don't see how that would be interesting to someone.
It was not in reference to an informational blog with the intent to help someone or share common experiences.
ETA: I dont read blogs as a rule. They don't interest me in general. The only blog I ever really read with any amount of interest chronicled my dear friend's quest to adopt a child from China and the events soon after the adoption. THAT was compelling.

Honestly, how is that any different then a lot of the posts on LIF? I am not trying to be argumentative but at least people reading blogs are generally interested in the blog for a reason (relationship, topic, etc).
A few of my friends blog and I enjoy how they capture/record little things that happen in their lives. A lot of times it's stuff you wouldn't think to mention but are funny in some way.
Of course, to each their own about reading them but I dont see anything wrong, bad, boring, stupid or obnoxious about posting one.

Re: Just curious - how many of you have blogs on here?
I don't blog on here but I enjoy reading them.
Sometimes it is nice to escape for a few minutes into the mind of someone else. If I find it boring I stop reading. No one is holding a gun to my head (except for that one time) and forcing me to read it. Some of the blogs are helpful for things such as home decorating, some are sad and some are nothing but pure randomness that make me laugh.

I never said it was wrong or stupid to blog. What I meant was that althoguh LIF would be similar, a few sentences about a my day or an experience i'm having is quite different than a long drawn-out account of said life or experience outlining every detail. Most people on LIF do not share everything... some do, but not most. in a blog, it seems like everything is shared, well at least the ones i've read.

Gotcha.
The last paragraph was really summarizing some of the other comments about regular day in the life blogs - I didn't mean to imply you said that.

Re: Just curious - how many of you have blogs on here?
I blog.
It's my outlet. It's my update.
I didn't want to keep bumping updates on DH, so I figured I would blog and people who were interested could and people who weren't didn't have to.
I'm sure some people think I share a little too much, but for me it's an outlet that is more powerful than a journal or diary. Something about knowing that someone else sees it makes it easier for me to write.
Maybe it helps someone gain perspective. Maybe someone learns something. Maybe I make someone laugh. Maybe I inspire someone.
Maybe I bore them to tears and they roll their eyes at me.
But mostly it's for me.

I've found reading someone's 'diary' to be therapeutic, as it's always interesting to know about other people's lives... or that someone has experiences similar to yours etc etc...
I used to blog... I liked writing about my son in a comical 'coming of age' way...Its just story telling..
I have 2 on here but lately, I just haven't felt the motivation..

Re: Just curious - how many of you have blogs on here?
I have a blog. I just started it a couple weeks ago. I really dont have anything to do at work and it occupys me. I write it to be read, I dont write it as a personal diary type blog. It isn't anything serious- more light hearted and just for fun. It really came about one day when I was dreadfully bored! I don't think many people read it- justa few friends maybe.

I do! It's our home renovating and decorating blog... there is so much we've done and are doing to our home and since we live far away from some family and friends it's a great way to update them. Plus, I love sharing my design ideas, DIY projects and the renovations we've done.

I like reading your blog. It does accomplish all of these things for me at least. It is clearly therapeutic for you, and I appreciate that you share your thoughts and perspective with the rest of us even though some of us don't know you.

I simply cannot imagine anyone else finding a need to read what I have to say. I can keep a private diary or blog if I wanted to express myself that badly on a day to day or otherwise consistent basis. For some reason, I find them (blogs) obnoxious. JMO.
I totally agree. I don't think I have anything important or interesting enough to say on a daily basis that would warrant a blog. I have always said that I find most blogs a bit self-important. I only find them interesting if they pertain to dealing with a specific issue (e.g., a major illness), in which case they can be cathartic and other people may benefit from the blogger's experience.

I do... but I only have one post.
I love reading other people's blogs. I don't care if anyone reads mine. I post if and when I feel like it. If someone thinks I am obnoxious or that I am full of myself for posting - well maybe I am!
But in all honesty - my blog here is NOT at all the same thing as my journal. I've posted one snippet of a story I am writing - and if people find it interesting of nice.. I'm thrilled. If they think it's tripe... no big.

I am not struggling with the same thing as you are... but I read your blog all the time. I like you immensely and love to keep updated on what you are going through. I send you silent prayers every time I read.
Please don't for one second stop just because anyone else might think it is a waste of their time to write a blog or read one.
