Just curious: how much does your district pay leave replacement teachers?
A couple of years ago, I had a leave replacement position in a different district than the one I currently work in. They paid me Step 1 pay after 25 consecutive school days. Apparently the district I currently work for doesn't pay Step 1 until the 90th consecutive day filling in for the teacher who is taking the leave. So basically, I will be taking over for a teacher for about 4 months, and since that doesn't add up to 90 days, I won't get full pay. Is it just me, or does that seem unfair?

when I did my leave it was per diem for 30 CONSECUTIVE school days and then step one on your education level with Retro pay for the first 30 days.

I believe in my district it is negotiable; you will get paid per diem for the duration of the replacement when the original teacher is getting paid, however following that period you will receive salary and benefits that you negotiate with the admins. I am currently on maternity leave and had enough time to be paid for 8 weeks; at the end of that time my replacement became salaried. However she is a new teacher and was paid step 1 masters, which is her level. In the past, others have negotiated higher steps/education commensurate with their experience and how desperate the district was to find a replacement!

i thought they earned salary and benefits according to their step and ed. level. however, i was out for 3 months and my leave left a copy of paperwork in my desk. she was filling out a sub form everyday and was only earning per diem!!! i was really surprised...

I had a leave-replacement position as my first job, and I was paid like a substitute teacher. No benefits, no sick days, per diem pay for 30 days, and then it went up to about $180 per day. Sad, right?
