How many SAHM's are on this board, and do you plan on going back to work in the future, if not how do you occupy your time at home???.

I am a SAHM and I love it, i do sometimes think of going back, especially since i invested so much time and money into my education, but for now i am glad for the opportunity. It does get a little monotonous sometimes though....

Re: just curious-SAHM

I am a SAHM and I plan to go to work when DD goes to kindergarten. I love every second of it (I am lying, lol) and am so thankful that I am able to do it. I still work for my DH during her naps though. My day just goes so fast between breakfast, lunch, nap, dinner, running errands, etc. But I do take her to the park, library and special activities here and there. At times it gets boring, but we always find something to do. Thats why I couldn't wait for christmas, new toys to play with!

I am a SAHM - I sell real estate on the side.

Once he gets older and is in school I will either get really serious with RE or find something else. I wouldn't go back to my old career though - and I am def. not commuting into the city again!

I honestly dont know....

I had changed careers 5 years ago. After a few bad employment choices (I worked for a few small companies that were owned by complete wackos) I chose to back to school...AGAIN...I left when I got pregnant with DS...

Soooooo....

Either I go back to school...AGAIN..to finish yet another degree...or I find a new niche...

I am a SAHM and love it!
For a little extra $$ and to keep myself busy, I babysit for a relative on a school calendar schedule and hours. Works out perfect.
When not babysitting, we go to Mommy groups, parks, or just hang out with each other at home.
Im due again in June.
I plan on going back to work, possibly when baby #2 (if we're done) goes to Kindergarten (if we can make it that long financially).

I plan to go back eventually (not in the near future unless it is P/T). We are busy most days ---- laundry/bills/cleaning ... playing/ play dates / mommy & me / various park .... different malls, target, etc ....
The weeks fly by.

Re: just curious-SAHM

I am a SAHM, I just had my DD a mth ago. I also invested alot of time and $ into my education but this is very important to me and I am thankful we can afford to have me stay home.

I can easily see myself getting bored and lonely though, but right now it's even more hard b/c it's winter so I can't really go out with DD for walks and she is too young to take places. I imagine I will feel a lot better about it once I can go out in public with her, and hope to socialize a bit then by taking her to groups, etc.
I have no intentions either way though to return to work until she at least is in school full time.

Re: just curious-SAHM

I am a SAHM during the week. I work a few hours on the weekend for extra $$ and keeping my skills up to date.

I plan on working a few more hours after DS starts school but never FT again unless I REALLY have to.

During the week we do GTGs, go to LICM (we have a membership). We did a lot more during the Summer because of the weather.

Re: just curious-SAHM

I stay home during the day and work in the evenings a couple days a week. Or sometimes during the day, depends. I have a pretty flexible employer so I'm luck in that regard. I started out p/t went to f/t now back to p/t. Some of the days I want to pull my hair out, but I do try to plan something everyday even if it's just going to the store. Going to work in the evening is a "break" for me and without that I would probably truly lose it Chat Icon

I am a SAHM. Now that my daughter is a little older I went back to school and I am working part time as a life coach and as a photographer. My ultimate goal is to never go back full time, but to work at home part time like I am doing now.

I am a SAHM and love it. I dont miss my old career at all. Once we are done having children and the last child is going to school full time then I will find a little job with school hours (I hope) so that I can be home when my kids get off the bus.

I'll probably go back when my kids go to school full time...when we're done having kids (that could be a while from now). Well, maybe I'll go back, if I'm bored and my DH makes me Chat Icon Otherwise I plan on filling my time w/"me"things (gym, manicures, pedicures, Chat Icon )

Im a SAHM as well. I don't plan on going back to work until DS (and other future kids) are in school, then I'll do some P/T work. I could really use a job at home but I can't find anything Chat Icon
I am on the quiet side, so I would love to go on playdates but don't have that many unfortunately. I try to keep him busy by signing up to toddler classes. Otherwise we are always stuck at home. Would love some ideas, lol..

Re: just curious-SAHM

I am glad there are others on this board like me. My DS and I definately try to occupy our time with mommy and me classes, and running errands and house things makes the day go by. I have not had many play dates, i guess it will get a little more social when ds gets a little older and the weather gets nicer.

Re: just curious-SAHM

I've been a SAHM for a year, and the plan was to go back to work in the spring. But the job outlook in my field is bad right now, I doubt there will be anything until summer, so I may extend it a bit more and see what happens then. Otherwise, I may need to look in a different field.

I take DS to a music class, a playgroup at the library, storytime at the library, and various shops in our area, along for errands or grocery shopping, which he loves ever since he could sit up in the cart. He has a playdate almost every week with another child around his age. About once a month we go into the city since we don't live very far away. When the weather accomodates we go on walks.

The rest of my time is basically spent caring for him and cleaning the house, doing laundry, etc. There really isn't time left for much else, especially now that he's walking and down to one nap a day.

I am very grateful to be a sahm. I have no plans on going back to work in the future. We go to classes at the local library, story time at B and N , do errands together and just hang out at home. Days really go by fast!

Re: just curious-SAHM

I am a SAHM. DS is 6 months. I love it and wouldn't trade it for any salary (unless we needed it financially).

I do plan on returning to work when our last child starts kindergarten. Although I do not think I will return to work full time. And I probably would not return to the same field.

eta: we currently spend our time doing house hold chores, playdates, and January we start our first "mommy and me" (music together).

Re: just curious-SAHM

honestly, I will only go back to work if financially we aren't where we expect to be in 7-8 years.

when the kids are in school, I think I would go and start an early elem degree, just as a fall back, since my prior career was more then a 9-5.

I love being at home. I look forward to kids being in school and me playing tennisChat Icon

I do plan to go back to teaching once my youngest child is in kindergarten--which at this point will be in six years.

What am I doing now? Counting down the days until my youngest is in kindergarten! Chat Icon Just kidding...or am I? Chat Icon Well, my older DD is in nursery school PT, so she's out 3 half days. My younger DD and I attend a mommy and me type class once a week. We all go food shopping on Mondays and have a weekly playdate on Fridays.

I must say, I am enjoying SAH more this year now that DD is in school and we are busier. I suspect I may get used to this lifestyle and may not want to give it up when all is said and done. We'll see...

Im a SAHM too and I couldnt imagine it any other way. I have my masters in social work so I spent alot of time and money on my education and really loved what I did, but for me its more important to be home with DD.
The winter is alot harder than the summer to find things to do. It helps to have a plan of something to do that gets you out of the house on most days I think. Even if its as simple as going grocery shopping, it seems to break the day up. I find that if I have one thing to do a day, the rest of the day goes pretty fast with all the eating/napping, etc.
And whenever it gets tough I remind myself that DD will only be this age once and how much I will miss it when she is older. But most of the time I really do love it!
ETA: Not sure about going back to work. I plan on having more kids so I wont be going back until Im done having kids at least.

I am a SAHM and will go back to work when my youngest is in school full time. (He's 2 1/2 now.) I worked in Finance and would have to go back to Manhattan to make the real $$$ so I'm not quite sure yet if I will do that or look at other options. I have 3 kids so I have no issues occupying my time right now. Honestly, I don't know how someone who works and has 3 small kids does it. I totally give props to whoever does. I feel like I am running around or cleaning all the time.
