Re: just curious-SAHM
Unless financially necessary, I am trying to SAH with DS (and hopefully any future children) until they are of school age. I wouldn't mind working PT if something great came along though. I look for PT opportunities all the time and have even went on some interviews but it never winds up making sense financially .. I would basically be using that salary for a sitter/childcare
I definitely plan on returning to work FT once my youngest is in school. However I do think that I will make a complete career change when that time comes. I was a legal secretary/assistant for many years in Manhattan before having DS but I do NOT want to return to that whatsoever.

Re: just curious-SAHM
I've been a FT SAHM for almost 5 years now. I have no real plans or desire to go back to work FT. I would if I had to, but right now, I am fortunate that we are comfortable and do not need to.
I have been working some very PT hours (like 1 day a week) for a few years now for the company I worked for before having children. They are incredibly accomodating to me with my hours (I work when I can) and they pay well and gave me a Christmas bonus It's the perfect set-up for me, just enough to keep my foot in the door, but not enough to have to deal with all the BS

Re: just curious-SAHM
I went back to work p/t when DD was 6 months old. It wasn't easy, but we had to. And it gets me out of the house and around other people.

Re: just curious-SAHM
I am a SAHM. I planned on going back to work (teaching) this past September when DD#3 started second grade, but DD#4's arrival in August kinda changed those plans, lol.
I love being a SAHM mom. Sometimes I wish I felt better about it, but especially with school-age children, I find that being available to them completely (as well as for school trips, lunch duty, etc) is so important. Yeah, money is tight sometimes, but I think I have raised secure and happy kids thus far (touch wood).

Re: just curious-SAHM
I also am a SAHM and love it. I could do this FOREVER! lol Some days can be stressful but its been rewarding and our days are always busy.
I plan to be home for as long as we financially can - and perhaps when the kids are older and in school I may do something part time or who knows maybe something full time.
Right now im trying to enjoy every minute of being home with them but i guess I can never say that ill never work again - who knows!

Re: just curious-SAHM
i have been a SAHM for 3 1/2 years now. I have a 3 yr old and a 1 yr old.
Financially it doesnt make sense for me to work i used to be a preschool teacher so they dont pay well and if i put my kids in daycare im paying the daycare more money then i would make. i loved what i did i wasnt in it for the $.. anyway, i will be home with my kids until they are at least in high school since i am the primary person who will have to take them to and from school and handle all of the household responsibilities. My husband works the midnight shift so he sleeps during the day and has a rotating schedule with his days off...so he would never be able to watch the kids if i worked. I tried working a few months ago but my mom couldnt babysit anymore, and my husband was getting no sleep if he stayed up for the 3 hours that i worked.(he works nights) I always wanted to be a SAHM so i am very happy with the lifestyle that i have. I do like working but it doesnt make sense right now or in the near future to do so. as far as how i occupy my time at home...since my husband works nights i do alot of cleaning and laundry when he leaves for work so during the day im 100% with the kids and taking my DD to preschool and my DS to parent/tot and playgroup/playdates. I try to make the best of the day i feel lucky to be home with them!
