Just kids Lindenhurst vs. ACLD/Kramer Bay Shore
Hi, My son is currently doing his evaluations for the transition from EI to cpse, and he MAY get recommended for a school program because of the number of services he gets. It would be for an integrated classroom. Does anyone have any experience at just kids in Lindenhurst, or acld?

DD went to ACLD and had a phenomenal experience there. I loved it so much I ended up working there for several years. She had little speech and within 3 weeks was talking very well. Don't let the location scare you off either. They do have a fully renovated and new facility opening up soon too, which I've been in. I believe some of the integrated classes are going there.

Thank you so much for the input! I'm going to go on a tour soon. Do you know where the new location is, and when it's opening?

Re: Just kids Lindenhurst vs. ACLD/Kramer Bay Shore
My DS went to Just Kids for two years with services.
The related services he received were amazing and I truly saw him grow from them. The OT, co-teaching/integrated class setting, and play group. They helped him maintain his focus, socialize more, etc.
However, I was not pleased with the curriculum they follow. Knowing how much writing goes on in Kindergarten, aside from his OT sessions, he never wrote anything his whole Pre-K year. They did not complete handouts, practice writing the letters, etc.
September and October transition to Kinder this year was hard for him because of that. They spend so much time completing handouts and writing.

I have worked in both in various roles/ capacities and let me say DO NOT consider Just Kids at all. ACLD is phenomenal.

I also believe ACLD is affiliated with NSLIJ. I have known people who have worked there who were phenomenal.
Granted it's the adult end, but I have several pts right now who use their clinic for services and receive excellent care.
The agency has a great reputation.

Let me say that I have not been to any of the schools yet- so take this for what its worth. I'm starting tours not this coming week (break) but the following one. I'm in the process too. Going for integrated in September, looking for 4, 5 or 6 hours. Not making a decision based on hours, but it is a consideration because I don't think 2.5 hours a day is enough for my son. I'll include the hours just in case thats a consideration of yours. Just spoke with Just Kids Middle Island today, their integrated is still open, fyi. My therapists have told me the Middle Island Just Kids is better than the Lindenhurst one. Its 5 hours. Leeway comes highly recommended but their site says integrated is 2.5 hours. Other ones that have been suggested to me are Alternatives for Children 4 hours and is less ABA and more SI, New Interdisiplinary School (2.5 hours though) and DDI- Yap 6 hours. I've gotten a lot of input from all four of my son's therapists (2 abs, 1 speech, 1 parent trainer) and they seem to lean away from Kramer and DDI Yap. Kramer and NIS are bigger (more options, more programs) while Leeway is smaller. I think Just Kids middle island is mid sized. Again, I haven't visited any, just starting now. I've been told that when you go 'you just know'. I don't know about that, but I do know that its not a one size fits all approach. Based on what you need, your child's strengths and what they focus on, I think its different for each child.

Yes..I'm sorry-I forgot to check back! The new location is in Bay Shore nearby and I believe that they'll start classes there in September. The GSB YMCA is using it over the summer for their camp programs. I recently created a slideshow for the Y (I'm their photographer) and it's up on youtube showing the new facility.
