My DH actually does most of the grocery shopping and sticks to his list. He asks me before he goes if there if there is anything I need.

DH is pretty good. But even if we have two cases of beer, he has to get more. Usually he says because he doesn't like the beer we have in the house.
He changes his mind about beer weekly.
Hey hon, can you finish last weeks beer first?

We'd get all of that - the anything else would be potatoes because DH eats like 6 a day (I swear - he does!) and beans in tomato sauce (YUCK) and if I'm lucky maybe ice cream.
He's actually not too bad of a grocery shopper.
