Re: Just Watched The Weather Channel--This Is Looking SCARY For Long Island...
I am waiting it out. This storm is a few days away. I would just keep an eye out for now.

Re: Just Watched The Weather Channel--This Is Looking SCARY For Long Island...
I remember Gloria, lived in Holbrook, there was a tree on our house, the fence was around the block, and no power for DAYS.
so while Im not panicking, I am making sure we have enough food, water, etc to last us a while

Re: Just Watched The Weather Channel--This Is Looking SCARY For Long Island...
Living on the East End, with parents and other family members in Emergency Services, I can tell you that both Gloria and Bob were a MESS out here.
Gloria was a Cat ONE when it landed here, Bob was I believe a 2. And we had trees down and lots of damage here.
As a previous poster said, I'm not panicking, but I certainly am keeping one eye on the forecast, stocking up on water and shelf stable snacks/food, and preparing for a rough go of it.

Is it sad that I am trying to figure out how many bottles of wine I will need to ride out this bad boy & its aftermath?
I have two big bottles of red. Definitely not enough
I'm only worried about the wind, we have a ton of very very very tall trees behind us, but we're on the north shore of Suffolk so I'm hoping for the best.

And think, I could be in Boca Raton right now where I thought the storm was supposed to head. I still have time to get there, right?

My parents and MIL are in the Babylon area, so that is our game plan if this thing stays on its current course. Of course DH said he's not leaving and won't even discuss bringing in the lawn furniture at this point
Karen - if you head out to Babylon and he stays behind make sure he knows where our house is and has our phone numbers - when the storm surge chases him out he can always come here if he can't get to Babylon. At least we're a little further from the water.
