Just when I was trying NOT to get emotional that first born is starting Kindergarten...
My hubby's aunt/Godmother has to be THE most thoughtful, creative and loving woman on earth.
SHe's 84 or so, she doesnt forget one birthday or milestone in this house.
She lives alone in CT, and we get a phone call, greeting card, note card, she sent a check to buy my son his backpack for kindergarten 
no matter HOW many times we've ripped up checks and told her we appreciate her thoughts, she continues and is so darn adorable. She wants to know that a special item they use every day is from her. so we make it a point to tell her which item we bought for them. (or she suggests things  )
My hubby is her Godson (and nephew). she completely adores him and is just head over heels with his boys.
This week she sent me a poem that she wrote when her son started kindergarten in the 1940's !!!!
It's a total tearjerker poem that really let it all sink in 
It's even on the original page that it was typed on.
If THAT's Not THE most valuable gift she's yet sent to us...

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL.

No matter how I tried
I couldnt keep the teardrops back
and so I turned aside
I wouldnt have him know my pain
"T" would be against the rule.
and so I hugged him close. then sent
my first born off to school
The things Ive lost, the baby ways,
the confidence he has
That mom can do most anything
but childhood days must pass
And so I brushed his curls until
They shone just like a jewel.
and then-- I turned my head and cried
My first born's gone to school.
I pulled his tie from left to right
and tugged his sleeve a bit
then thought of how, when babies come
they days just seem to flit
I put the pies and cakes to bake
and took them out to cool
while all the time my mind was full--
My first born's gone to school
But underneath the pain is pride
that soon he'll be a man.
and knowledge that he gains today
will broaden his life's span.
and some day, when he's older grown,
he'll chide me for a fool
and we'll both laugh because I cried
on his first day of school.

AKA
Auntie Armeeg (ELeanor in Armenian
) She truly is the mom/aunt that makes the best pies and cooks for a house full of people.
Im just speechless. There are quite a few in DHs family who write amazing poetry, sing, dance and are extremely creative in crazy ways.
Another aunt writes personalized poems in her greeting cards (she's Mrs Hallmark herself ) she wrote us an amazing poem when we got married that I framed and had on the frame table on our wedding day.
His cousin made a CD of childrens music in Armenian and also sang a religious song at our wedding in Armenian.

Aw! Anna!! I am so emotional about it too. That is beautiful. I can't believe they are going. I didn't get emotional about PreK but when I put him on that bus, I know I'm going to have to fight to put on a happy face for him. I will conciously try not think about my feelings but more about his adventures... I'm going to try anyway.

and my MIL just reminded me, she has FOUR grandsons (all of which are adults now) and she sent this to her Godson  They dont have kids yet, but they did have first days of kindergarten
SHe truly adores my hubby to pieces and it shows.
Gosh,I hope this doesnt cause any famliy feuds
This is the type of person to be around when you need a positive light, she's 84, and ALWAYS happy, bubbly, optomistic and loving. You can hear her squeals of happiness when we call her, from across the house
When we got married, she was like "I'll swim there if I have to, but I WILL BE at my JOhnny's wedding, I wouldnt miss my Godson's wedding for the world"
(she has 3 children, 2 of which really dont venture our of their neighborhoods as far as driving, and one is very busy with his own family business.)
and countless times, she's offered to take buses and trains into the city and then the railroad to us 
SHe's my hero.

My heart is breaking that Megan turned 1! I cant imagine her first day of school..oh good lord!!!!!!! I am going to be a bawling mess!!!!

Awwwww what a beautiful poem and a beautiful person to admire. She's just one of those people that you love so much that you could never find a reason to be mad at them if you wanted to. That's what I like to call a GEM of a person. I love her and don't even know her! I've seen her a couple of times yes but don't know her like you guys do.
I will be a mess inside when my son starts kindgergarten but on the outside I will be strong and smile and act like i'm happy when i'm not, only because my baby is all grown up...

I also wanted to add, while Im gushing about her she's the one that inspired me to start the sailor suit tradition as my boys' first birthday outfits.
SHe got one for her Godson for his 1st bday. and now they all have their own like daddy.
