Recently Jim showed me the cover of the PBA newsletter (Ken's homecoming). I could not believe how GREAT he looked! You would never have known he was in such a horrific accident. It's so nice to see!
I can't believe the way that speech pathologist at St. Charles was treating him!  That's terrible. You should definitely make a complaint.
Anyway, I just wanted to tell you how happy I was to see your brother looking just the way I remember him!
 
That's what everyone says!!
I mean, we were at the hospital when he got sick just after he got home and people (docs, nurses, etc) would come in and just start asking him questions - they had NO clue whatsoever. I mean, he was in a bed, sitting up so if there's no wheelchair to give something away then they REALLY have no idea -- and even with the wheelchair, people still have no clue he has a head injury.
Needless to say, every chance he gets to look in the mirror - he does! HAHA! He looks into it and then looks at us like, wow - still got it!

Dani---the way you write, you will have NO PROBLEM putting together a victim impact statement. Your words are so powerful.
Sorry the SOB didn't take the plea, he is living in dream if he thinks he will get off. And don't feel like you need to work on keeping it (your emotions) together. Let them all know how emotional this has been on everyone.
I was watching a story on the today show about a man who has ALS. They've followed his story for the last, I believe 6 yrs. And he said something that really struck me.
"Don't mourn what you can't do, celebrate what you can".
Kenneth will never be the same but he has amazing people surrounding him that won't let him be anything less than he can be.

I cannot believe the SOB didn't take the plea deal. I am so sorry that you and your family will go through that. You have written so much here maybe you can take excerpts from here for your statement.

I'm so sorry to hear that after all you guys have been through, you now have to go to trial and relive everything. What a stupid man for not taking the plea. Well, at least now you know he'll get exactly what he deserves, and he'll be sorry he let this go to trial. You'll make it through, as hard as it might get.
On a happy note, I'm so glad to hear that Ken is making such great strides on his road to recovery! He is so lucky to have such a great support system in you guys!
You are all still in my thoughts and prayers!

I'm so glad you updated! His progress is just remarkable....still makes me shake my head.
As for that SOB who hit him....he'll get what is coming to him. He's delusional if he thinks he can beat this. I'm just so sorry that you all have to go through the trial. Kenneth is always in my prayers!

 That is so frustrating (and ballzy) that someone would think it appropriate to challenge/question your care for Kenneth. I know it's probably not even going to bother you for very long but that's a well-deserved vent. I get that the person is probably unsure of what to do/say but that's no way to handle discomfort. ugh.

I'm sorry you are having to deal with other people's unsolicited input. They should see the strides Ken has made and know that you're doing what's best for him. Don't doubt what you're doing for a second. You're the one who has been dealing with this for almost a year, and you're the one who knows your brother best. You don't have to justify anything you are doing....you're caring for him in the way you know is best!
