Keratin Hair Straightening
I had the Japanese done last year and it FRIED my hair.
Been hearing a lot about the Brazilian Keratin straightening and was wondering if anyone here had it done? Or had the Japanese and actually liked it. I am thinking that it was the person who did it, rather than the actual process.
Also, where did you go and how much did it cost?
TIA

Re: Keratin Hair Straightening
I did japanese hair straightening in Woodside Queens last September and it's still completely straight, I get compliments all the time and I am so happy with the results!! it was $250 and it took 5 hours....but I have crazy long hair (all the way down my back), I think the norm is more like 3 hours to get it done.
Hair Pro Charming
my hair isn't really wavy to begin with, so new growth is not affected too much(I've been told it's tougher for those with natural curls b/c new growth comes in and needs to be touched up).
let me know if any questions! this salon also had reviews on yelp.com which is what helped me choose them

Re: Keratin Hair Straightening
for years I was getting the JS done. I have been to good places and bad places. the best place I went was somewhere in woodside (I'm sure I can find the name if you need it--it is not the one PP said). Most places would take 9-12 hours to do my hair the place in woodside took about 3 1/2 hours If I remember correctly it cost $250. My hair is super thick and curly/frizzy. After several years I decided to let the JS grow out and give my hair a break....grow out was horrible but it did finally happen. No sooner was it out then I wanted to get it done again. Instead, at the urging of my friend, I got the Keratin done instead. While it softened my hair and got rid of some of the friz, I would not say my hair dried completely straight. I felt that it was a waste of money IMO. If I ever were to get my hair straightened again, i would do the JS and not the keratin. that being said, from what I understand, the keratin treatments that contain a small (safe amount ) of formaldahyde work MUCH better and give a very similar result to the JS...I think it also depends on what your hair type is. If it is very curly and frizzy, JS is probably better for you.

Re: Keratin Hair Straightening
If you are looking to get your hair straight then the Keratin will not do it. Its not a straightener. It will take the frizz out and will make it softer.
you will still have to style your hair as normal it will just take a shorter amount of time. It also only last a few months.
I get it done all the time but I am not looking for my hair to be pin straight.

How often did you do the JS? Do you have pictures?
I was planning on getting the Keratin this weekend but after reading your post now I am thinking maybe JS. The problem is that I have "curly-sue" type bouncy curls so I dont want to lose them forever.
TIA

You have to decide whether you want curly hair or straight hair. If you go with JS, you hair will be PIN STRAIGHT. There will be no curly, wave or kink. For most with curly, frizzy, unmanageable hair this is exactly what the doctor ordered. If you have pretty little curls and like the flexibility of changing your hair style from curly to straight and then back to curly, JS is NOT for you....Keratin is better.
I on the other hand cannot tell you how wonderful it was to go on my honeymoon to cancun with 150% humidity, go in the pool, take a shower and never use a hair dryer and have my hair be as straight as if I had spent 5 hours flat ironing it
But then there is the grow out...when you try to grow it out, be prepared for your ends to be straight and for your roots to be curly. You will have to flat iron your roots....
This is the place I went to (knew I'd find the name ) Oh and if you go on a saturday, get there early, people line up outside the door just to get in

Thank you soooo much!!!!!!!!
Ugh I am sooo confused. Would I have to cut all my hair off (the straight part) if I wanted to grow it out curly again?

Re: Keratin Hair Straightening
I had curly hair all my life i tried so many different ways to straighten it but the curls always win.
Ive wanted to do jhs but am afraid of what it will do to my hair. My daughter had it done and it burnt off the whole front of her hair. but then again my sister had it done same place and never had a problem. still to risky for me
I am going to try the the keratin this thursday and see what it does to my hair. I figure its not permanent so how bad can it bee

Re: Keratin Hair Straightening
Just had the JS done to my hair last week. My hair is super thick and super curly.. been doing the JS for five years now and I love it. I don't think the Keratin would be right for me. My hair is so much better with the JS. I get it done for only 150.00 in Flushing, NY(JJ's Hair Salon). Been using them for two years now and they are great!!!

Yes....just like if you were growing out a perm...just keep getting it cut....but you can work around it by flat ironing your roots as it grows out
